6 Retail Tenants Possible in Former Kmart Building

Endeavour Corporation is renovating the former Kmart building and bringing new businesses to East Sunset Drive in Waukesha.

Four retail tenants are proposed for the redevelopment of the former Kmart building at East Sunset Drive and East Avenue, according to Jeff Fortin, community development specialist for the City of Waukesha.

Plans for the property include a 10,000 square foot addition to the former Kmart building. Preliminary plans will be presented during the Plan Commission meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 201 Delafield St.

The proposal also includes two outlots with drive-through capabilities on the properties. Those buildings are 4,400 square feet and 5,985 square feet, according to Fortin.

Xperience Fitness is the only tenant that has been made public. Other tenats have not yet been announced.

Developer Randy Roth told Patch on Thursday the final tenants will be firmed up in a few weeks as the developers prepare for a September closing.

The Waukesha Kmart building, 120 E. Sunset Drive, has been vacant for more than a year. Endeavour Corporation is purchasing the property and is renovating the former Kmart building.

The city is looking to provide a $2.6 million pay as you go tax incremental financing incentive to help the $13 million renovation.
