The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha has hired Marie Hoffman as its new athletic director.

Hoffman, an Appleton native, replaces Neal Nelson, who retired in May. She earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and master’s degree in exercise physiology from UW-Madison, where she also participated in cross country, track, the school cycling club and managed the administration of local athletic events. Hoffman also will teach health and exercise science courses at UW-Waukesha, as she did at UW-Madison.

“One of the reasons I was attracted to UW-Waukesha was the opportunity to be involved with both the educational and athletic success of students with such diverse backgrounds and interests,” she said.

Hoffman said she hopes to increase the involvement of students in UW-Waukesha athletics both as athletes and as supporters and to increase overall community excitement and involvement in the athletic program.

“I am very excited to be both an instructor and the athletic director at UW-Waukesha and to see the ways in which the school and the athletic program will grow in the upcoming years,” she said.

Dean/CEO Harry Muir is excited about the energy and experience Hoffman brings to both positions.

“We are very excited to have someone of Marie’s caliber to replace a person of Neal Nelson’s stature as our athletic director and instructor of health and exercise science courses,” he said.
