GuitarTown Artists Announced

The artists will design the next round of 15 10-foot fiberglass replicas and 24 playable Les Paul guitars for the Waukesha GuitarTown public arts project.

The Waukesha GuitarTown Steering Committee has announced the artists selected to design the next round of fifteen 10-foot fiberglass replicas and 24 playable Les Paul guitars that will become part of a public art project.

The Waukesha GuitarTown public arts project kicked off in downtown Waukesha in June 2012. Gibson Guitars agreed to a second phase, and the GuitarTown steering committee has the artists that will design the guitars.

This year's project has grown to 15 10-foot guitars and to 24 playable showcase guitars.

With these additions, the Waukesha GuitarTown Project will be beautifying Waukesha’s landscape with a total of twenty-five 10-foot guitars. Likewise, the playable Les Paul guitars will now increase to a total of 44.

This year’s sponsors will be able to display the guitars at their place of business as well as be featured on an area map of Waukesha, much like the Guitar Pick map did for the downtown during the summer of 2012.

Playable guitars will once again be sent to Gibson for the addition of strings and related hardware before being returned to Waukesha for an indoor display.

All the guitars will be displayed in downtown Waukesha during the opening weekend of Waukesha’s Freeman’s Friday Night Live on June 7, 2013.

Large guitars are also going to Waukesha West High School, Waukesha North High School, Waukesha Central Middle School, Saratoga Stem School, and showcase playable guitars to Butler Middle School. La Casa will be getting a large 10 foot guitar and a playable.

The joint efforts of the Gibson Guitar Foundation and local sponsorships are providing funding for this project.  Sponsorships opportunities for this project are available by contacting Rick Congdon, President of Waukesha GuitarTown at www.Waukeshaguitartown.com
