'Madonna & Child: Interpreted' Features Carroll University Professor's Art Work

A group art exhibition at Soups On, 221 N. Water St., Milwaukee, will feature photography by Philip Krejcarek, professor of art at . “Madonna & Child: Interpreted” will be displayed from Oct. 17, 2011-Jan. 13, 2012. Receptions are Friday, Oct. 21, from 5-10 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.

“Madonna & Child: Interpreted” features 32 artists interpreting this iconic subject from traditional to nonconformist. Krejcarek’s imagery is of a man holding a baby, “Maybe the modern Madonna,” he said. William Zuback created his own interpretation of Madonna and Child in the late 1990s. Two years ago, he purchased an illustration from Wisconsin artist Travis Reichardt, and now is curating this show of juried and invited artists. Zuback and Reichardt are among the exhibitors.
