Carroll Professor Performing at Milwaukee Church

Dr. Leon W. Couch III, assistant professor of music at , will perform an organ recital on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at 3 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1227 N. 4th St., Milwaukee. This event is free and open to the public.

Freewill offerings will benefit maintenance of the church’s William Schuelke organ of 1884. The Schuelke Organ Company was a Milwaukee-based pipe organ builder in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Schuelke invented the electric motor-powered bellows crank, replacing hand-cranked bellows. Today, few of the company’s organs exist intact. The pipe organ at St. Francis of Assisi Church is one of them.

This event is presented by the Wisconsin Chapter of the Organ Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists-Milwaukee Chapter. It is Couch’s first local performance since joining the Carroll faculty in July 2011.
