Waukesha Farmers’ Market is Saturdays

About 70 vendors bring produce, bakery items and more to the Frame Park riverwalk for popular market.

Every Saturday in downtown Waukesha, Riverfront Plaza by the Frame Park Riverwalk is closed to traffic. Instead, people from Waukesha and the outlying communities park in nearby lots and walk through the packed area where vendors sell produce, flowers, baked goods, popcorn, cheese and more at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market.

The farmers’ market is nearing 70 vendors, including Oberweis Dairy, which recently joined the market.

Waukesha Business Improvement District Executive Director Meghan Sprager estimated that about 2,500 people come to the farmers’ market on Saturdays during good-weather days. The market runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 29.

“However, if the weather is nice and the frost hasn't yet been too bad, we'll be extending the Market into the first few weeks of November,” states a newsletter from the BID, which is in charge of the farmers’ market each year.

  • QUEST cards. The Waukesha Farmers’ Market is in for low-income people who want to purchase locally grown produce. The Waukesha BID received a grant to put the program in place earlier this year. “There are very strict guidelines,” Sprager said. “When there is a question, we … clarify if they are an accepted vendor or not.”
  • Live Cooking Demonstrations. Occasionally during the market, vendors will have cooking demonstrations to show people how to prepare certain recipes with their ingredients.
  • Punch cards. If you are a “frequent shopper” at the Waukesha Farmers’ Market, then a punch card is available. The first 100 people to receive 12 punches on their card are eligible to receive a gift certificate from the farmers’ market.
  • BID Information Tent. If you need help carrying items, want to know more about the Waukesha Farmers’ Market and downtown Waukesha business or if you simply have a question to ask, the Waukesha BID is staffing an information booth at the farmers’ market each Saturday.
