Volunteer As a Historic Gardner, Adult Companion and More

Here are some ways that you can give back to the Waukesha County community.

To sign up for any of these volunteer opportunities or to learn more about volunteering, check out the United Way Volunteer Center. The following volunteer opportunities are available through the

Adult Day Center Caring Companion, Catholic Charities

Are you looking for a meaningful opportunity where you can share your compassion and learn about another person? Consider volunteering in our Adult Day Center, as one of our Caring Companions. Visit with program participants, read, talk about life experiences and encourage them to participate in activities. Volunteers are asked to commit to one visit per week, two to four hours in length. Visit times are Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This opportunity is located in New Berlin.

Provide a Meal for a Group, Parents Place
We are looking for meal providers on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 5 p.m. The meal will serve low-income families prior to a group they will attend at Parents Place. This family meal for Thursday serves between 30 to 40 people. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. Please call ahead to reserve your place on our schedule. We also need donations of juice and snacks for other group meetings. Families are welcome, Boy Scouts, churches or anyone wanting to make a difference. Waukesha location.

Costumed Historic Gardener, Old World Wisconsin
Volunteers are needed to role-play as historic gardeners at Wisconsin's largest living history museum! Volunteer historic gardeners will assist with planting, maintaining & harvesting crops at fifteen historic ethnic vegetable gardens on our grounds. Volunteers will dress in costumes, provided by our facility, and utilize 19th Century tools/techniques to maintain the gardens. Volunteers are needed from May-October, during museum hours. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old and complete an application process that includes a background check. Located in Eagle, Wisconsin.

Donation Center Assistant, Safe Babies Healthy Families
Share your friendly spirit with pregnant young women or young families who will be coming to our Donation Center in downtown Waukesha, which is supplied with donations both new and gently used.  The young women and families in our program participate in our Earn As You Learn program. As they earn Baby Bucks, they are invited to come to the center to shop for items they need for their baby or child. We need two people to oversee the center when it is open and to monitor the "shopping". Hours will be determined by availability of volunteers. There will be a brief training and orientation. A volunteer application including a background check will be completed prior to the training.

We lost bushes also. I assumed it was from last summer's drought. We're located near Hy59 andRead More Sunset. I noticed dead trees at Prairie View and Sunset also.

I agree that the folks at this Kwik Trip are great at assisting disabled people like myself but IRead More disagree that all Kwik Trips are helpful. There is a law that all gas stations are to assist you if you have disabled plates or a hanging placard if you press the help or disabled key on the pump. If there is no key (and I think all must have them by a certain date) then you are to honk horn twice and if there are at least 2 employees on duty, they are to assist. The K/T on St. Paul is useless. I've waited there, watching at least 3 employees mill around the counter with 1 or 2 customers and ingnore me. The Grandview station same but I haven't tried them in a few months. The worst station for that is whatever the one on St. Paul and Prarie is. I pulled in to see a female worker standing on side of building smoking. When she went in she was greeted by a male worker and I was ignored by both. I'd like to do a survey on how helpful each gas station is to the disabled. Kudos to Fleetfoot Kwik Trip! Whatever they got they should share with their brethren. I would rather give my $ to K/T because they are WI based and they donate regularly to the Salvation Army

I am fine with this service--its great. However being handicapped does not mean employees need toRead More give up their breaks or other customers need to let you cut in line in front of their service needs.
