Saratoga Playground To Be Moved

Waukesha Common Council approves moving playground from school district property to cut down on dangers of fly balls.

The Waukesha Common Council unanimously approved relocating the playground that is located near the Saratoga Softball Complex from Waukesha School District property to a different area in the city park that will allow children to play without the fear of errant fly balls.

“STEM School Saratoga no longer has use for that equipment and it is not be utilized,” explained Alderman Steve Johnson during Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

Johnson said the location has brought safety concerns because of the flying balls coming from the softball fields. Because safety concerns have come from park users and the general public, according to a city document, the Common Council approved funding in the 2011 budget to establish a safety netting an effort to keep stray balls from the playground

“It is not a very friendly place to play when games are going on there,” Johnson said.

But that is expected to change as the city will relocate the playground to a better location that will be away from the direction of the flying balls.
