Photos: Peace Demonstration Marks International Women's Day

The Women's Center organized group who called for an end to violence against women.

With calls for peace and an end to violence against women, some community members gathered on the North Barstow Street bridge over the Fox River near to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event was organized by a shelter that provides help for domestic abuse victims. The following is from a news release from The Women’s Center:

This global campaign is being organized by Women for Women International,
a charity that helps women in areas of conflict to rebuild their lives. Women
for Women International campaign, Join Me on the Bridge asks women, children and men to join together on International Women’s Day on bridges throughout the world, to make a public statement that “Stronger Women Build Bridges of Peace.” Last year there were 464 events in 70 countries.
