Photos: A Chance to Thank our Veterans

Waukesha Veterans' Day event honors those who have served country.

Veterans young and old spanning from World War II to the most recent war overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan gathered Friday morning for a special Veterans’ Day ceremony in Waukesha, despite the freezing temperatures.

“If it was not for you fighting for our freedoms, I may not have the honor of speaking before you today,” said Adam Kindred, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the Army.

Kindred, who said he had the “utmost respect” for all veterans, gave a special thanks to those who have gone and served before him and others in the Sept. 11 generation. And to those who served in Vietnam and didn’t get the welcome home they deserved, he made sure they were recognized.

“We have much to be grateful for here,” Scrima said. “None of this would have been possible without the brave young men and women who have gone for us and who are still with us here today, who have protected our system of government – a system which is by the people, for the people and from the people.”
