People’s Park Sweet Potato Fries Being Sold at Oscar’s

Limited amount of fries being served at custard stand while remodeling of fire-damaged building continues.

The wait for the People’s Park sweet potato fries has come to an end – even though People’s Park has not yet re-opened – but you better get them fast.

The restaurant’s Facebook page says it began serving the fries at Oscar’s on Highway 18 at the Town of Brookfield/City of Waukesha border.

An employee at Oscar’s said the sweet potato fries were selling like “crazy” and are on a limited basis. Oscar’s had five cases of the fries and went through half of them on Thursday.

The employee anticipated that the fries will be gone today.

People’s Park is in the remodeling process as a February fire severely damaged the bar and restaurant.

The restaurant owners are literally rebuilding from the ashes. It wasn’t clear what would happen when one of the owners, Jim Taylor, said at a Waukesha Business Improvement District meeting that People’s Park would come back, “bigger and better than ever.”

Since that meeting, though, the plans have emerged and People’s Park is working on expanding the restaurant and bar to the second floor and roof.

“We have been talking about expanding for a long time, but we were trying to save money to do it,” said owner Dan Taylor following an April Landmarks Commission meeting. “We would have had to close the restaurant to expand but because of the fire, we had the opportunity because we are down. We can use the opportunity while we are down to expand then we don’t have to shut it down in the future.”
