Patch Picks: Five Non-Profit Groups That Are Making A Difference in Our Community

This week we look at area organizations that strive to help the community.

Five Nonprofit Groups That Are Making A Difference in Our Community

1. NEW BEGINNINGS CHRISTIAN CHURCH

The church itself does not have a permanent building, as it holds services in a city parks and recreation building. Still, the church goes beyond its borders and is active in community help organizations. The church finds needs – although it has its own needs – and seeks to better the community.

2.

Hebron House of Hospitality takes in people who have no home and gives them a warm bed and fights to help turn their lives around. Beyond providing a warm place to sleep at night despite controversy and concerned neighbors, the organization works to find permanent housing solutions for people to get them back on their feet.

3.

Hope Center has a partnership with Hebron House of Hospitality and provides a day shelter for the homeless while Hebron House is closed. It is more than just a shelter, though. The organization provides meals and clothing. Beyond meeting the basic needs, the organization assists with work search, service applications and any other areas where a person can get back on their feet and gain independence.

In addition to helping with the needs, Hope Center takes those who may seem unloved or unwanted, and gives them a place where they can surround themselves with family.

4.

H.A.W.S. takes care of the furry creatures, big and small, when life circumstances no longer allow their owners to take care of them. According to its website, the animal shelter assists more than 6,000 animals a year and accepts animals of any age, health, temperament or breed.

The shelter program also has pets for adoption.

5.

They provide a range of services to assist senior citizens throughout the county such as, nutrition, housing, transportation, education, health care and socialization.  They also have programs to assist disabled adults 18 and older to maintain independent living.
