How do you celebrate birthdays when your children have grown up past the balloons and pin-the-tail on the donkey?

It’s birthday season at our house.

For us parents, it’s a time to reflect on the blessing of being parents.

For our kids, well, it’s party time.

We’re transitioning from being parents of younger kids to being parents of an almost-teen and a teenager and one of the challenges we’re encountering is planning birthday parties.

Gone are the superhero or pirate parties, same with a lot of other mom-planned themes. Not cool, I’ve been told.

Friends have suggested laser tag, paintball, a scavenger hunt, dinner out.
