It's Time for the Waukesha Patch Spring Tour

Want to learn more about Patch or have a coffee with me? I am going to be at 10 different places this week to learn more about the community.

This is it, the first week of April, and the introduction of the Patch Spring Tour. I don’t really know what to expect from the tour, but I am excited to get out in the community and meet a few new people.

I’ve planned out a few stops along the way. A few of them are private meetings with area organizations, some are city meetings and I have picked a few coffee shops to meet anyone who wants to say “hi,” grab a cup of coffee, has questions about Patch or simply wants to chat about the Brewers or Packers.

So where will I be this week?

 Monday

I have two meetings Monday morning with service-orientated organizations. I am really excited to be meeting up with Ralph Zick over at the Hope Center. Ralph and I have had many conversations over the phone, but I am looking forward to our first face-to-face meeting as I learn about some of the challenges that face this organization that helps those in needs.

After that, I am headed to Waukesha Service Club. I admit, I don’t know a lot about this organization but should come away from the meeting knowing more.

Finally, I am ending the day by attending the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department’s board meeting. I’m a huge fan of the park system and usually go for a jog or a walk through Frame Park a few times a week. I’m hoping to head out to more parks this summer and get a full flavor of Waukesha’s park system. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and includes a discussion and possible action on smoking in the city parks’ playgrounds. The meeting is at 1900 Aviation Drive.

Tuesday

It’s Election Day. I am going to be heading to the polls to take some pictures but not to vote myself. I usually vote ahead of time because Election Day is busy for reporters. I take advantage of the early voting at City Hall to make sure my vote is cast. If you are out at the polls and see me, please introduce yourself.

I will also be at Café De Arts around 10:30 a.m. First five people to come in and walk up to me can get coffee on me.

Wednesday

Kittens and puppies, oh my. I am headed to the Humane Animal Welfare Society to talk with its executive director about Patch and HAWS. I admit, I am hoping to pay a visit to the kennels and see the animals. I just hope I don’t end up taking one home…

In the afternoon, come say hi to me between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at The Steaming Cup. That’s when I plan to be drinking some coffee and looking for some conversation. Come by and tell me what it is that makes Waukesha your community and what you like about Waukesha. Same thing as before, first five people to come find me will get their coffee on me.

Thursday

It’s a trip to Sprizzo Gallery Caffe for me. From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., I plan on being at the restaurant. Maybe I’ll get there in time for the French toast! First five people to say hi, once again, I’ll buy you your coffee.

In the afternoon, I am stopping in at the Beading Hearts Studio to talk with the owner and some of her customers. When I worked at the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, I worked with the sweetest reporter who would make a new necklace every week. She would show off her creations to the entire newsroom. I’m hoping that I will run into a Suzanne Weiss-like crafter while I am there.

At night, I will be at the Common Council meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. A few things are on the agenda, including the city administrator’s performance evaluation in closed session and a pothole discussion.

So, ready, set, go! It’s going to be a full week and I am excited to learn more about Waukesha. Hope to see you around!
