Insight From a Blind Man: Music and Fish Fries in Downtown Waukesha

Columnist Gregg Wandsneider shares about a recent fish fry during Freeman Friday Night Live.

I recently was searching for singer-songwriters in the Waukesha area for a music festival that I am organizing in the beginning of August.  I came across the Facebook page of Alexa Grey.  I noticed that she plays at several places downtown Waukesha, including for Freeman Friday Night Live, at Generations at the Five Points and at D Mos Pasta and Chop House inside the Clark Hotel in historic downtown Waukesha.

After listening to a few of Alexa’s music videos on YouTube and liking what I heard, I decided to venture to D Mo’s after helping out at the K-Love stage for Friday Night Live. I had also heard that D Mos had a relatively good Friday night all-you-care-to-eat fish fry, and I thought I would put it to the test.

Soon, delivered fresh and hot to my table, were three very large pieces of fish with homemade tartar sauce and some of the best French fries I had had in a while. The prices, too, were reasonable.  The bar at D Mo’s has both bar stool seating and more comfortable, couch-type chairs.

After my most excellent fish fry experience, I was browsing on DMo’s Facebook page and I found out they have another restaurant called D Mo’s Pita and Pan located on 151 W. Sunset Drive.  The Sunset Drive restaurant also has a Facebook page.

Restaurants that use social networking well are my friends! I hear Alexa Grey works there as well.  Have her sing for you!  Then, sing back your order to her and tell her you want to try the beer-battered green beans as Gregg said they were tasty!

If you visit D Mo’s Pasta and Chop House on Facebook, you will find out they are having a celebrity chef from the TV show “Top Chef” visit them in the fall.
