How Did you Meet Your True Love?

Share your love story with the community this Valentine's Day!

I still remember the day I met my true love at age 22.

The snow was swirling around in the air signaling the beginning of winter. I was shivering and freezing and I debated packing up and going home when a pair of piercing eyes looked at me. The eyes sucked me in and warmed down to my near-frostbitten toes. I couldn’t breath. I could barely say anything. He shook my hand.

And just as quickly as he came, Aaron Rodgers disappeared into the swirling snowstorm at Lambeau Field.

OK, so everyone knows my biggest celebrity crush is Aaron Rodgers. It’s been that way since I was 19 and he was drafted by the Packers at age 21. I’m still waiting for the day that I can take a picture with him.

I’m going to go on record here saying that Aaron Rodgers probably isn’t my true love. But I’m still a sucker for other true love stories. I’d love to hear yours in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Share with us how you met your true love and what made you realize that person was, in fact, your true love. And while you are at it, share a picture of you and your true love on Patch!

I met the love of my life working at the Spooka Minooka haunted house. He made me laugh and I was hooked. I scared him to death ( appropriate huh) but after much convincing we went out. We have now been married for six years. We still build a haunted house together- now at downtown Waukesha.

Okay, I met my true love on the internet. We met on an IRC chat room and saw each other for a year or so online before we started talking. I thought he was a bit arrogant, but he was more coming to IRC to debate and destress. After we started talking more online, then we started calling each other. After a number of 1 to 3 hour phone calls, we decided we should meet, but we had to exchange pictures first. I swear, he sent me the most awful picture of himself he could find. What shocked me was that I bawled/cried the moment I saw the picture, as I thought to myself how can I look at this face for the rest of my life? My next thought, was what... are you that serious about him? I had no idea how much I cared for him and how serious I was until that moment. When we first met face to face, I was relieved that he looked nothing like the picture and he was the man I loved. We have now been married 16 years.

"Some Kindness and Some Sweetness!" I met my wife Sherie, while living next door in a 3 efficiency apartment building in La Crescent, MN. As I had my "eye on her" for several months, I never had the courage to talk to her even though we lived next door. While at work in La Crosse, Feb. 1989, a blizzard hit the area with 14 inches of snow. Most businesses shut down and people went home. I went straight to the apartment and found a shovel at the landlord’s door. I figured that's my chance to "break the ice" and decided to shovel her parking spot and the entrance to her apartment. It took more than a half hour to do so and I was frozen! The landlord showed up and said I should have used the snow blower inside the garage! As I anxiously waited inside watching for Sherie to pull up, she never showed that day! I practically had frostbite and the landlord finished the parking area with the snow blower! She had gone "home," up north, to her parents home in Wisconsin Rapids for the weekend! I never had the courage to introduce myself and tell her what I did until May 14, 1989, when she happened to be outside washing her car. Our landlord "broke the ice" and told Sherie what I had done for her! We all talked, played some volleyball and then later some stormy spring weather rolled in. I asked Sherie if she’d like to drive over to La Crosse to Dairy Queen and she said "yes!" It was a "sweet date" and one that we’ll never forget! She’s been my "sweet treat" for over 20 years now!

I met my love at a singles church group. I walked in for the first time with a friend, sat donw and pointed to a pretty girl in a red dress leading the music with an incredible voice and leaned to my friend and said, see that girl leading the music? I'm going to marry her someday! He laughed, she had a crush on my friend and it took me a long time to even get her attention! We became friends then dated a little and just as it got serious we both went on missions for our church for 18 months. She to England me to the West Indies. We wrote often, came home and started over again dating. We were married a year later, we have four wonderful kids and have been married 27 years.
