Needs for Fire Victims Still Being Assessed

The American Red Cross needs to complete assessments with the victims and examine what is needed, Lemirand said.

Waukesha residents can call the Salvation Army directly at 547-7367 about the volunteer opportunities, but Lemirand cautioned it may be a few days before full details are available for any clothing drives.

Lemirand said she knows there have been churches interested in helping out, but organizations working with the fire victims need to locate a warehouse-type storage space for the donations.

“You will still get to help out,” said Lemirand about those looking to donate. “If you have jeans and (other clothing items), they aren’t going to go anywhere in a week.”

has been assisting some of the families and individuals who were displaced in Saturday’s apartment fire, executive director Ralph Zick said.

The people have been given clothes by the organization, but Zick said people who want to donate clothing items are welcome to do so until 4 p.m. weekdays.
