Great Weekend Weather for Fiesta Waukesha

Three-day festival went forward smoothly, despite a couple of hiccups.

Despite a week of storms that saturated the grounds, Fiesta Waukesha made out with some really nice weather during its run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Frame Park in Waukesha. This yearly event is held by La Casa de Esperanza to promote multicultural awareness. The festival attracted people of all kinds and interests.

There were a few new additions this year, including a children’s play called Linda Lu y las Munequitas Carmelo. According to Anselmo Villarreal, President of La Casa de Esperanza, this is an educational show that talks about the issues of immigration, but does so through comedy and cartoons.

“The main goal of Fiesta Waukesha is to bring different communities together," Villarreal said. "It’s important for La Casa de Esperanza to showcase the beautiful and important contributions of the Latino community.”

Villarreal said that another thing that was new was a tent highlighting

An additional new activity was a soccer clinic hosted by the Milwaukee Wave and ESPN Deportes. This was definitely something fun for the kids to take part in. In addition to the clinic, there were free water bottle and information on summer camps. Attendees could also put their name in for a raffle to win Milwaukee Wave tickets, which will be drawn in the next week. The players also had team pictures to sign for the kids.

Despite a miscommunication that prevented the Wave players from showing up at their scheduled time Saturday afternoon, they were rescheduled for Sunday afternoon. Season ticketholders Louisa Henke and Mel Henke, were there to have their shirts signed by the players.

Although that was their main reason for attending, Henke also said, “We haven’t been here for a couple years, but it’s a lot of fun. (You) meet a lot of people, (have) good food."

A wide variety of food was available for purchase as well as carnival rides, but admission and musical entertainment were free.

The carnival rides, including the classic Tilt-A-Whirl, were there to entertain the kids as well as a children’s tent with games, crafts and facepainting.

Mintsita Mexikani Dance Troup, Ballet Folklorico, Sentimiento Show, El Charro de Madison and Orquesta Veneno rounded out some of the musical entertainment.
