Gerbil Jamboree and Hamster Hoe Down This Weekend

Human Animal Welfare Society highlighting small animals for adoption in Waukesha.

With nearly 60 pets residing in the small animal ward, the animal shelter is holding a special adoption event from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Gerbil Jamboree and Hamster Hoe Down highlights the animals available for adoption and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions from potential adopters.

Small animal adoption fees range from $5 to $25.  This Sunday small animal adopters will also receive a special gift for their pet as part of the adoption package.

The animal shelter has the following animals available for adoption:

  • 18 Gerbils
  • 8 Hamsters
  • 2 Guinea Pigs
  • 1 Domestic Rat
  • 16 Rabbits
  • 11 Birds
  • 2 Ferrets

“Many people don’t know they can find a small animal for adoption at a shelter,” said HAWS’ Executive Director Lynn Olenik in the news release.  “The Gerbil Jamboree & Hamster Hoe Down is a chance to showcase just how many of these small animals we have up for adoption at HAWS – and at very reasonable adoption prices.
