First, Long-Anticipated Snow of the Season

Some enjoyed the abundant snowfall while others battled road conditions and shoveling.

Some hardy Waukesha children and parents braved stinging snow and fierce winds last night at popular sledding spots to revel in the first snow of the season.

Sledding kids and adults took advantage of Waukesha’s abundant snowfall, six inches according to NOAA, to enjoy the first snow of the season.

Waukesha's Cheryl Bonell and her family were sledding on the wind-swept fields of Lowell Park and the elementary school. The children were eager to use their sleds for the first time since getting them for St. Nick's on Dec. 5th. Last night was a family activity to celebrate her husband's birthday.

Mike Koser said he wasn't really waiting for the snow and had been enjoying the recent spring weather but he was out with his wife and daughter last night to join in the sledding fun.

For others in Waukesha, however, the snow caused some problems.

According to the Waukesha Police Department, police officers responded to 26 property-damaging car accidents between noon and 10 p.m. Thursday.

Clean-up efforts by the city began last night and continued early this morning, according to  Streets Supervisor Don Roberts.

City crews used 39 plow trucks and seven loaders, bigger trucks with plows on the front and side, to clear streets. They plowed last night to make the roads passable for people and for emergency vehicles and came in early this morning to continue cleaning up after the snow, according to Roberts.

Overall, snow clean up went well for city crews, considering it was the first time plowing was necessary.

"I think it went very well for the first time out," Roberts said.
