Fashion Takes a Walk on the Wild Side for Children's Causes

Third Annual Roots Salon Fashion Affair sets its sights on fashion and charity, hoping to raise $20,000 for a great cause, in exotic style

The third annual Roots Salon Fashion Affair 2012 was held Friday night, combining talent, creativity, and fashion with a movement to strengthen community relationships and raise funds for causes near and dear to the hearts of owners Shannon Lopez and Naomi Prusinski.

Inspired by Jim Ryan, a close family friend and previous president of Penfield Children’s Center, who lost his life to cancer, Lopez and Prusinski decided to support Penfield as well as Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. They are donating all of the net proceeds from the event to benefit the research programs and needs for each organization.

The evening consisted of eight unique runs collaborated between Roots' top stylists and local boutiques that included Sparrow Collective (Bay View), Allure Intimate Apparel (Mequon/Brookfield), Savvy Bride (Brookfield), Francesca’s (Brookfield/Bayshore/Wauwatosa), Dancerz Closet (Waukesha), The Art Institute of Wisconsin (Third Ward), and Urban Laundry (Wauwatosa).

Themes for this year’s show covered wearable fall fashion presentations inspired by animal instincts and adult grunge to very bold editorial presentations inspired by 18th Century Rave.

Previously, Roots had raised over $30,000 from their two annual fundraisers, Cuts4ACause and the 2011 fall Fashion Affair.

Over 1,000 people were expected to attend the event, which had an ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 - $20,000.

Sponsors included Spin Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Wave, Bartolotta group, Brewers Diamond Dancers, Integrity Payment Systems, and Forest Home Auto Body.
