UPDATE: Community Saddened by Death of Waukesha Child

Andy Niebler, 12, passed away surrounded by family.

Waukesha 12-year-oldpassed away this morning, surrounded by his family, after taking a turn for the worse this past weekend.

"We were all with him and will continue to love him forever," Andy's family wrote in his CaringBridge journal. "It has been very difficult and we will continue to lean heavily on family and friends for their love and support to help us get through."

Over the weekend, doctors determined there was nothing more that could be done to help Andy fight aggressive central nervous system tumors. Andy’s fight started a little more than a year ago.

Despite the battle against the brain cancer, he was recently described by friends as being a fun-loving kid with a high morale.

The past weeks have been difficult for the family as Andy’s condition was up and down and then worsening, suffering pain, paralysis and confusion as the tumors spread. Andy was receiving hospice care at home.

There were moments of bright spots, however, when Andy received his wish of a fort from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, built by Hunzinger Construction Company.

A basketball tournament fundraiser to help Andy's family with medical expenses has been planned for Aug. 7 at Center Court. A Twitter thread #Prayers4Andy has also brought support to the family.

Information is pending on funeral plans.
