Braving Fierce Winds, Canoeists Race the RiverRun

Six-mile course travels the Pewaukee and Fox rivers on the last Saturday in April.

The 38th Pewaukee Kiwanis River Run was held this Saturday on the Pewaukee and Fox rivers, ending at the docks of the Rotary building in Frame Park.

Boaters conquered rapids and low bridges to successfully complete the 6-mile course which begins in downtown Pewaukee. Spectators and boaters alike braved the fierce wind but overall weather and water conditions were favorable for the annual event.

In addition to single racers and canoeists, many families participated in the RiverRun, like father and son Ed Kurth Jr. and Ed Kurth Sr., 79, of Pewaukee. The race marks a highpoint for the family since Ed Kurth Sr. recently had quadruple bypass surgery. The family has been participating in the Pewaukee RiverRun since 1975. Ed Kurth Jr. is a teacher and wrestling coach at Pewaukee High School.
