'A Better Idea to Share it With These Guys'

Waueksha man donates Easter ham he received in sweepstakes contest to others at Marine Corps League.

A chatty Ed Schultz was clearly excited to bring the ham he won in a Facebook contest sponsored by The Food Channel to the rest of the group in the Marine Corps League Monday night.

He successfully kept his ham sandwiches a secret from the others in the group pulled off the surprise. He added in cupcakes and cake made by his sister-in-law as an added bonus to go with the Easter ham.

“I was thinking, ‘Well, OK, so I could give it to my overfed family or I could make some sandwiches and take it over there,” Schultz said. “It just seemed like a better idea to share it with these guys.”

The Marine Corps League is comprised of people who have been honorably discharged from the Marines Corps and Fleet Marine Corps, said Lynn Sabel, commandant of the Waukesha County detachment.

“We see what we can do to help our community and help our members who are in need in the area and throughout the country,” Sabel said.

In addition to participating with Memorial Day festivities and activities, the Marines Corps League raises funds to create packages for the men and women serving overseas in the U.S. military.

“We help out whenever, wherever,” Sabel said.
