Delafield resident earns highest Girl Scout honor with dance program for disadvantaged children

Milwaukee - Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) has awarded Delafield resident and Girl Scout Brigid Transon the highest award in Girl Scouting–the Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouts who receive this award are challenged to complete a variety of requirements and carry out a project that meets an expressed need in the community and beyond.

By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Transon has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.

Transon selected her project because of her love for dance. She taught dance at a nutrition center and grade school in Costa Rica, where she studied for a semester during her junior year. In addition to teaching ballet, Irish dance, poms, and hip-hop to kids ranging in age from 3-10 years old she collected dance shoes and belts with Celtic designs for the students to wear during dance lessons, making the students feel more important and involved.

“I feel this project gave me the opportunity to share with disadvantaged children something I love,” said Transon. “I believe that I can do things I dream about and I do feel that this project will help me be less fearful about initiating an idea. I learned that people were generally helpful to make this project happen and I would like to expand this project in college.”

A Girl Scout who has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award immediately rises one rank in any of the U.S. military branches.

This year, GSWISE recognized nine girl members for earning their Girl Scout Gold Award.
