A Fresh Start

I will be writing 6 profiles of the District 97 Assembly Candidates. I came upon some of my opinions by researching the different candidates and have a good idea of who I will cast my vote for:

I wanted to start by talking about Brandon Rosner. From what we can see so far of Brandon is that he is all about a Fresh Start. It is his campaign theme, it's on his website, signs, flyers etc. Besides the House of Cards/Peter Russo jokes that can be made about that slogan, it's also kind of fitting. Mr. Rosner has run for office quite a bit in the past and has lost in every attempt. I guess he ran once in Milwaukee himself, ran a couple of losing campaigns for Congressional and Presidential hopefuls. It appears with his surprisingly recent move to Waukesha he is looking for a fresh start to his political career.

It also looks like he is trying to find a clean slate from his past as a co-host of a fundraiser for Peter Barca with Tom Barrett. According to Brandon, in a report by Wisconsin election watch, he donated money to his friend Peter; and shouldn't be held accountable for how that appears to voters. While it's true you can forgive a handout to a politician who is a friend of yours, I cannot understand co-hosting an event with Tom Barrett.

According to the flier associated with this event Tom Barrett appears to be the main host and there were several other co-hosts, including Mr. Rosner. This event took place in 2008. It is interesting that he would choose to attend this event with several prominent liberals during a very contentious presidential election campaign in which we needed every good Republican to stand firm against liberals. Whether friends or not.

I suspect that this was probably a good opportunity for someone who could be considered a political opportunist to show up and meet some other local prominent politicians. However hob-knobbing with the left isn't on his campaign's website listed under qualifications. If you see Brandon going door to door I would ask him about that event. And I would ask him about knowledge of issues and why you should vote for someone who only has lived in the district a short while.

In the 97th district we have a chance to replace someone who made some mistakes we should know the person we choose to replace them. Not choose someone who is just moving on the next opportunity, and who is looking for a fresh start.
