WAUK With WINC Planned for Sept. 28

The third annual WAUK With WINC 5k walk/run is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28. The goal of the event is to bring about awareness and support for the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Field Station and the Wildlife in Need Center as they work together to connect people, nature and wildlife in southeastern Wisconsin.

Runners and walkers will enjoy the rustic Glacial Drumlin State Trail. The event also is open to dogs (on-leash) – close to 20 dogs made the walk last year with their owners. It is intended to be a leisurely, family-friendly event, not a competitive event. County Executive Dan Vrakas will be present to start WAUK With WINC.

Event registration takes place at 18 West (formerly Saxe’s Restaurant), W325 S1767 Mickle Road, Genesee. 18 West, which will offer free parking, is located a 1/2 mile west of the intersection of Hwy. 18 and state Hwy. 83. The route takes participants west along the Trail and finishes at the UW-Waukesha Field Station and Wildlife In Need Center, W349S1480 S. Waterville Road, Oconomowoc (south of Hwy.18).

Runners will begin the route at 9:30 a.m. with “Waukers” to proceed shortly after the runners have left the starting line. A free shuttle bus back to 18 West’s parking lot will run every 20-30 minutes. Participants have the option of returning on foot back along the trail or taking the shuttle. Strollers and dogs (on-leash) are welcome as well.
