Alumna’s Exhibit on Display at UW-Waukesha
Recent work by UW-Waukesha alumna Kari Garon will be displayed in the university's art gallery through Nov. 16.
Recent work by University of Wisconsin-Waukesha alumna Kari Garon will be displayed in the university’s art gallery through Nov. 16. The exhibit, free and open to the public, is entitled Micro/Macro: Cloning Mutts, Saving Children.

Garon said her artwork focuses on the “continual fluctuation between that of real and imaginary personas; all created in an attempt to cope with a multiplicity of intersecting identities. Symbols are generated as a reconstruction of memories of past and present autobiographical interactions.

“My figures dance back and forth between depicting versions of my Asian and white self in an attempt to recognize and address issues of colonization and privilege that exist within American society.”
Garon is a multidisciplinary artist from Milwaukee. Primarily recognized for her prints and collages of figurative forms, she communicates through intimate illustrative drawings and object making. Garon’s work often focuses on addressing the contemporary political and sociological issues of identity, multiculturalism, and the American ideal. Her artwork has been seen in solo shows throughout the state and group exhibitions internationally.
