ABCD’s founder, Melodie Wilson Oldenburg – who lost her life to breast cancer, devoted ten years to developing and expanding this non-profit organization to help other women and men who have breast cancer.  ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis is a free personalized mentoring service for those diagnosed with breast cancer.  It also mentors their families and friends. 

ABCD trains breast cancer survivors how to mentor those who have just been diagnosed.  Breast cancer patients are matched with a mentor who is similar in age, family, ethnicity, stage of cancer and type of treatment.  The mentors have already experienced the medical, family and emotional issues that come with the disease.  Their experience and their training, enables them to personally mentor, on a one-to-one basis, those newly diagnosed. 

This year’s event will be held on Friday, May 11^th, 5:30-9pm at the Oldenburg Farm in Mequon, a privately owned and operated farm.  Twenty-seven of the area’s finest chefs will provide small plate samplings of their favorites, including 7 devoted to dessert.  The evening will include a silent auction, live music, raffles, line dancing lessons and viewing of The Oldenburg Family collections of Texas Longhorns, Quarter Horses, 15 vintage motorcycles and 58 classic cars ranging from a 1928 Ford Model A to a 2011 Audi R8 5.2 Spyder.

Date with a Plate helps finance ABCD as it expands and continues to help more of the projected 4,270 women in the State of Wisconsin who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.  Over 4,000 people have been helped by ABCD mentors.
