Attention online shoppers: You might have to pony up more cash for those online shopping sprees, if federal sales tax legislation becomes law.
Online shoppers, who enjoyed avoiding paying sales tax for their out-of-state purchases, probably won't be happy if a bill pending in Congress becomes law. The Marketplace Fairness Act, which passed 69-27 in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, allows states the authority, and option, of collecting taxes on Internet and catalog sales. The act does not create a new tax. But it does allow states the option of collecting the taxes, which they are already owed. However, the legislation does exempt small businesses that make less than $1 million from collecting the tax. U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) voted for the bill, but Sen. Fundraiser at Taco John's of Waukesha on Thursday will benefit the Nani Negron Memorial Fund.
Jaslene Negron’s only 3 years old, but already her life’s taken a tragic turn. Her mother, Shanel “Nani” Negron, was killed by her boyfriend Eddie Callaway. Callaway, who was not Jaslene’s father, shot and killed himself when he was confronted by authorities in Indiana. Negron’s friends and family are rallying around the little girl and are holding several benefits to help raise money for Jaslene after the death of her mother. A Facebook group is planning a special event for Jaslene, although details are still in the works. However, the community can follow the updates on the fundraiser by liking the Facebook page here. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new store will take place Thursday.
Construction is beginning on a new Walmart Neighborhood Market that is expected to open at the end of the year in the Town of Waukesha on Highway 164, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. The old building, which housed Walmart before Walmart moved to West Avenue in the City of Waukesha, was demolished last month. The 41,000-square-foot store is a smaller-scale grocery stores. There are about 200 similar stores throughout the country. Plans for the Walmart Neighborhood Market include additional commercial businesses in out lots that may be developed in the future, according to Town of Waukesha documents.
