Penny---this business owners--many of them disagree. The margins are not fat already. Choking outRead Moreth e prime summer months is not helping. While A few businesses certainly were poorly managed--others have simply relocated. As you know the vacancy rate for businesses down there is abysmal. As stated I am fine with a real farmers market: Fresh fruits and vegetables--a few baked goods. The problem is when the people in tents compete with store fronts, the stores lose out. Its a matter of cost/overhead. So we a have a few months where perhaps business improves for a few transient people but we end up with a current (my guess) 50% vacant downtown. Finally I am not blaming the entire downtown issue on the farmers market. The issue is far more complex. However it is a contributing factor to deserves examination.

I think real farm fresh goods can add to the downtown by driving traffic it's when all of theRead More" crafts" and such start showing up when local businesses are negatively impacted.
