The Book Report: What's on Top of My To-Read List
I have had a morning of personal pet peeves taking place. Needless to say, even a cup of coffee was having a hard time lightening my mood. Post-lunch and time to read a little, I'm feeling much better. Midnight in Austenland is coming along very well and I'm thoroughly enjoying what, up until now, I had merely been reading, and I've even managed to get through more than half of my in-box at the office.
Inspired by a Twitter post from Jessica Spotswood, I've decided to list out my next reading agenda. I'm going to be house- and pet-sitting for a week starting June 18 (don't worry - I'm not going away from computer and communications devices this time!) and will have plenty to keep my busy. Here's what on my list that I'll be starting once I'm finished with "Midnight in Austenland:"

Interesting that your list only includes female authors. Interesting, because mine only includes male authors.

I do tend to read more books my female authors than male authors. That's interesting now that I think about it! Which authors are on your list?

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - unusual for the way it melds vintage photos with a totally plausible story, good storytelling, and an ending that is a little predictable but feels totally right. Also, The 13th Tale - I was so engrossed in the story being fed to me that I missed the twist I should have seen coming. Gods in Alabama - southern football gods, murder and family.
And dang it - I forgot the book you told me to download. Can you help?! Is it the "Midnight" book you're reading right now?

I've read "Miss Peregrine's Home" - I did enjoy that one! It ended with a total set-up for a sequel! So I wonder when book two will be out.
I've also read "The 13th Tale" - that was great!!!
Haven't read "Gods in Alabama," but I'll add it to my list. :)
Ooooh, "Overseas" by Beatriz Williams. But "Midnight in Austenland" was very good, too. But I'd start with "Austenland" first. :)

Have you read "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green? That's the book I've been recommending to everyone for the past few months. Don't let the "young adult" categorization put you off--this amazing book stands on its own merits in any genre.

Did you read 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?' unbelievable! The author is a science journalist & makes all the scientific parts so easy to understand. In fact if you read the foreword as to how she came to write the book in the first place, even that is interesting!

I am currently reading CANADA in book form, listening to BRING UP THE BODIES on CD in the car and reading THE MILL RIVER RECLUSE on my iPad. (I usually have three books going at once.) I highly recommend THE ART OF FIELDING and THE NIGHT CIRCUS for those who haven't read them. Both are available in paperback now.
