Prayers for the Newtown, CT Families

Our hearts go out to all those families affected by the horrible tragedy in Newtown, CT. Now is not the time for politics, but to reflect on the victims and families.

We pray for you. Godspeed to you as you deal with the tragedy inflicted by a sick individual.

Fine. No politics, just what needs to be said:

As a society, we have to figure out how to keep guns, ammunition, and body armor out of the hands of the mentally ill. Republicans and Democrats should be able to agree that this kind of slaughter is not what the Second Amendment is about. And unless you're going to suggest that 5-year-olds should be concealed carrying, the only way to address this incident is legislation that restricts gun ownership, that requires better records of gun ownership to be kept, and increases the penalties for improper sales.

If, in a year from now, a schizophrenic is still able to buy body armor and ammunition on the internet, then we will have to admit that these slain children were viewed as acceptable casualties of a gun-crazed society.

Young Conservative, if you're laughing today, then you're a psychopath. If you don't agree that we need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, then I have to wonder what could possibly convince you.

Maybe you should answer that question directly - exactly how many children would have to be shot to death in a single incident for you to be convinced that sensible gun controls are needed? We know that it's more than 18, so what's the number?

Mentally ill? My that is certainly politically incorrect, I have an aunt who is mentally ill. You insult her when you group her mental illness with this rat bastard. Try using the world EVIL, that is what describes this louse.

It must be difficult for your pea size brain to grasp the concept that EVIL people do this and they can use other means of destruction than a simple fire arm. Best to arm yourself to stop lunatics than sit on your rear end and blog about it.

Hey, all of you conservatives who are (understandably) feeling some mixed emotions about your staunch pro-gun stances in the light of so many dead children - spare me.

Nobody declared a moratorium on trying to solve the problem after 9/11, or the gulf oil spill, or the Fort Hood shootings. Some of us don't pray - we try to see reality for what it is, and acknowledge problems for what they are. Boo hoo hoo all you want about how tasteless it is to actually think about -preventing- a tragedy like this, but too bad. Lock yourself in your room and stay off the internet if you don't want your views to be challenged.

I told you how to solve it, arm yourself and be a man for once in your life. There was a time in human history when men were suppose to protect the meek...liberal males such as yourself are push overs for EVIL that was shown today in CT.

This simply would not happen to my family because I conceal carry where ever I go, its that simple. Plus we homeschool our kids so the mere thought of putting them in a government school is nauseating. I suggest this horrible tragedy is a wake up call to all of you pansy parents who seem to have forgotten that it is your number one responsiblity to protect your children.

It's not a debate, Bob. It's a uncontroversial statement - this person should never have been able to pull together his arsenal.

Again, the question is simple: are these poor children acceptable casualties? Or is this incident the result of a distortion in the US weapons market?

I know this offends some people, but the moment when you're in shock and disbelief over the killing power of one mentally ill adult is, in fact, the appropriate time to consider how we got here.

I am just trying to figure out how all those guns got up, loaded themselves and went after these children with someone behind them. These must be smart guns. Maybe they possess the one who picks them up. I can see a scenerio where an antigun group would sacrifice one of there own in the name of deal leader. I cannot think of how you could do more damage than to go into a school and kill young children. Its the perfect crime. The same man could have strapped on a bomb or took a large baseball bat….knife and killed as many as well. It would have been easy, no one is armed.

Read this carefully:

Calling for "no debate" in the wake of this tragedy is, in effect, saying different things to people who hold each of the two main positions. To those of us who would like to see more gun control, a terrible event like this can only be respected if we take seriously the question of how to prevent it from happening. Calling for "no debate" confuses with political gamesmanship a wish, felt by many, many people, to help the children, now slain, to have some kind of legacy in future children who are spared the same fate by the laws of a more sober society.

However, to opponents of gun control, calling for "no debate" is the same as saying "feel free to ignore the implications of your current feelings of horror and revulsion, at this awful tragedy, for your enthusiasm for increasing the availability and number of guns in US society. Don't think about it; just wait until the shock has worn off before you question your own views."

A lot of people who have accepted the calls for "no debate" in the wake of past atrocities will not swallow that again, and you can consider me one of those. If you don't want to think about it, fine - just don't expect everyone else to join you.

And let me also say - I expect that the reaction to this incident will be significant. Everything about it is terrible, but we should be more concerned about what it's not: unthinkable, unbelievable, or even surprising.

Remembering the Forgotten:

While you pray for those in Connecticut - the disturbing fact remains that Americans hold a double standard - and it is very disturbing -.

"Since the George W. Bush administration’s first use of targeted assassinations viadrone strikes, aimed at Al Qaeda and associated forces, in 2002, The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) reports at least 178 innocent children (up to age 17)have died directly as a result of U.S. drone policy.

"Though fromAugust 2010 through August 2011, TBIJ documented at least 101 civilians, including13 children, were killed by drone strikes. Brennan also said from August 2010through April 2012, the U.S. “had no information about a single civilian being killed.” TBIJ found that at least 107 civilians, including at least 16 children, were killed by strikes in that time.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/115147268/Youth-Disrupted-Effects-of-U-S-Drone-Strikes-on-Children-in-Targeted-Areas

These children and civilians are described as collateral damage, acceptable losses, or simply forgotten. It could be argued that some celebrate their deaths.

U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen have caused the death of 178 children.

Please remember these innocent victims as you search your conscious and propose solutions. This is a global problem.

I believe Jesus had something to say about the value of public prayers:

Matthew 6: 5-6 - "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly"

So, now be a good Christian and quit making an unseemly show of your prayers. Let's talk about this issue like men, and save your displays of piety for your bedroom closet.

Actually Tao, Jesus point was that praying in public just to be seen and a religious person does nothing to boost your piety. Since GOD is the only being to answer prayers, only GOD needs to hear them.

Kind of like your Nazi-like tactic of preying on peoples emotion to make your point and push your agenda!

I think the NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC is far more at fault for these types of killings. They tend to glorify the killer. Delve into his life. Try to find a reason. I could go on and on. I think these guys kill to be noticed. They are usually loners. Attention seems to be something they crave. In the end, the more people they kill, the more famous they become. They seem to be finding more horrific ways to put their stamp on society. If the media refused to print his name or show his picture, these killings would end. It would banish these monsters to eternal anonymity. I blame the media more than anyone else for giving these people a vehicle to achieve notoriety they crave at the expense of our little ones. The mainstream media has blood on their hands.
