The Milwaukee Wave opened training camp Tuesday for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The team is coming off two straight MISL Championships and is looking to continue the Wave’s winning tradition as veterans and rookies report to camp.
The team returns 14 players from the previous season including MVP of the MISL Championship series, Marcio Leite, who in the regular season scored 55 points with 17 goals and 20 assists, and in the playoffs led all players with 14 points on 5 goals. Additional returning forwards include Giuliano Oliviero, Tenzin Rampa, Ian Bennett, Tom Oatley, Hewerton, Pablo and Nick Perera. Defensemen Jonathan Santos, Josh Rife, Joe Hammes, Evan McNeley, Jonathan Greenfield and Fabinho Ribeiro add veteran depth and defensive power. Veteran goalkeepers, Nick Vorberg and Marcel Feenstra are back to defend the net.
The Wave is excited to add Ismael Hernandez, Israel Sesay and Luan Sales Oliveira to this year’s roster. Hernandez, a defenseman, comes to the Wave from the outdoor game in Spain. His speed and technique will help the Wave not only defend but will be great in the possession game. Sesay previously played for the US Youth National Team and also the MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy. He has lightning speed and great technique. Oliveira comes over from Brazil where he was previously named Best Futsal left-midfielder at Sergipe State League and part of the championship teams in 2011. His one-on-one attacking ability will be beneficial for the Wave in the upcoming season. They will be welcomed additions to the Wave’s roster.
The Wave is once again led by head coach Keith Tozer. Tozer received his ninth coach of the year award last season and has been instrumental in the success of the Wave organization.
The Wave begins their title defense Nov. 9 at Wichita, with the home opener on November 11that 3 pm at the US Cellular Arena. Season tickets, flex plans and single-game tickets on sale.
