$16,000 Raised at Concert to Shelter for Overflow Shelter

On February 17 at 3 p.m., a concert which included a variety of choirs and musical groups from the local churches was held in order to raise money to keep the Overflow shelter at St. Matthias open until the weather gets warmer.  The room at First United Methodist Church was rounded with a stained glass window in the center of the ceiling.  The room was packed as the choirs, handbell groups and trombone players began to play after the opening of all of us singing a song.

We heard from a lady named Tricia Hallett who is the office manager for Hebron House.  She used the services of Hebron House nineteen years ago.  She spoke of her struggle to leave her abusive father and the help that Hebron House gave her in this tough time of her life.  Another two people that Hebron House has helped is two Waukesha Patch commenters.  Theresa Tanner posted on December 7, 2011 on the article titled "Waukesha Overflow Homeless Shelter to open with County Support" about how Hebron House helped her when she needed a place to stay.  The other commenter is Oscar Wilde who posted his remarks thanking all those who have helped out at the Overflow shelter in January 17, 2013 on the above mentioned article. I think these commenters and the words of Tricia show that Hebron House and the Overflow shelter have made a difference in our community.

As you can see from watching this news video, this shelter has struggled with lower donations than needed.  This concert was an effort to ensure that the shelter could stay open until the cold weather is over.

While Reverend Kris Krause Androsky announced that 16,000 dollars was raised, he stated on his facebook page that it was 16,757.55.  Thank you to the businesses and individuals who have given to help such a wonderful cause.

Thanks for a nice "change of pace" blog Tracy.

One can only tolerate the political finger pointing for so long--eventually we need to come up for air.

Everyone should support this much needed cause. Just one minor correction to the above blog however. Rev. Kris is a female.
