UPDATED: Woman Hospitalized After Shooting Near Washington and Delafield
Standoff ends after 32-year-old man peacefully surrenders to Waukesha Police Department during incident.
A 32-year-old man who was involved in a standoff Wednesday with police after his 25-year-old girlfriend received non-life threatening injuries from a possible gunshot wound to the neck has surrendered to police, according to Sgt. Jerry Habanek.
The man was transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for a possible gunshot wound to the hand and for mental health observation, according Habanek said. Police are still investigating how the injuries occurred, but Habanek said the man was a suspect for the domestic disturbance.
Police responded to 717 Oak Ridge Court at 9:39 a.m. after a neighbor called 911 after the incident, according to Habanek. When the woman was transported to the hospital, she told authorities that her boyfriend was in the home with a possible weapon.
“The female had to escape from the house, went to a neighbor’s house, and that neighbor called 911,” Habanek said.
A standoff ensued for hours until the man peacefully surrendered to police at 2:25 p.m.
“Our negotiators spend a lot of time in training,” Habanek said. “The most difficult part usually is achieving contact with the suspect. Once that happens, they are very skilled at talking to people. This person wanted to come out but he was afraid of the SWAT team.”
