Waukesha Starts Christmas Tree Collection

When do you start taking down the holiday decorations?

The holidays have come and gone and some people have already started to take down their Christmas trees.

I was walking to my car in my apartment building’s parking lot on Wednesday and I saw quite the site. It looked like a Christmas tree had come to life and was gliding across the salt-stained lot. Then I saw two boots walking with the tree as my neighbor was on the other side of the tree, hauling it away for disposal.

One of my favorite parts of the holidays is the shinning Christmas lights and decorated trees. Unfortunately this year, it hasn’t been the same. Christmas decorations are best enjoyed with hot chocolate and marshmallows after sledding during a snowfall.

I personally like to leave up my tree until the Super Bowl. But I don’t do real Christmas trees, so it’s a little more doable. For those of you who do use real Christmas trees, the City of Waukesha has announced that natural Christmas trees may now be placed at the curb for pick up. Don’t wait, like me, until the Super Bowl because the collection ends Jan. 31.

From the City Department of Public Works:

Crews will pick up trees as time allows. A definite schedule is not followed because of snow and ice control operations. Trees should be free of all lights, decorations and wrappings of any kind. Wreaths and other decorations made with wire should be placed with your weekly garbage for pickup.  Lights can be recycled only at the Sentry Drive Drop-off Center in the metal salvage bin or in the electronics box.

I hope they pick up more than just once in a neighborhood, IE for me, the christmas season ends with epiphany and therefore the tree comes down shortly after Jan. 6th. Luckily when they have tree pickup is not a problem for me, as I have an artificial tree.
