Waukesha Man Takes Fast Food to New Level

Suspect, 21, tells officer he fled from police because McDonald's was slow with his order, according to criminal complaint. Instead, he is given a second drunken driving charge.

A Waukesha man who fled from police, then switched cars in order to avoid being pulled over says the reason he had to drive so fast was due to McDonald’s being late with his order, according to a criminal complaint.

Steven M. Whitehurst, 21, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Monday with one count of attempting to flee an officer, one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation, one count of second-offense operating while intoxicated, one count of failing to install an ignition interlock device and one count of obstructing an officer. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $24,200 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 2:35 a.m. Friday, a Waukesha police officer on patrol spotted Whitehurst driving east on East Sunset Drive traveling 55 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. The officer then sped up and turned on his emergency lights in an attempt to pull Whitehurst over, but he continued to drive.

The officer continued to follow Whitehurst, who passed another car doing 75 mph, and the officer got to nearly 100 mph in order to try and catch him but was unsuccessful. The officer continued to follow Whitehurst, who ran a red light at Highway 164 and abruptly hit the brakes near Navajo Lane and turned onto that road.

The officer later found Whitehurst in his girlfriend’s car, where he gave police a fake ID card and name, and told officers he consumed alcohol earlier in the night and had “bolted” because McDonald’s took 25 minutes to get his order.

Whitehurst had a blood alcohol level of 0.105 percent at the time he was arrested. He then admitted he had been drinking at Waukesha bars earlier in the night and had fled police on purpose.

He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $7,500 cash bond.

"and had 'bolted' was because"

Might want to have someone proof read before you publish. There have been quite a few articles published recently on here with bad grammar.
