Waukesha Man Robbed 5 Banks in 4 Years, Police Say

Michael J. Wegge, 58, admitted to robbing several area banks, including two in Waukesha County, according to a criminal complaint.

A Waukesha man living at the Waukesha Salvation Army admitted robbing five southeastern Wisconsin banks between 2008 and 2012, according to a criminal complaint.

Michael J. Wegge, 58, was charged Friday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with robbing a Muskego bank in December 2008.

Wegge and his twin brother, Patrick J. Wegge, were charged in 2012 with robbing banks in Oak Creek and New Berlin. Wegge walked up to a bank teller at Citizen’s Bank of Mukownago, S74W17001 Janesville Road in Muskego on Dec. 13, 2008, and gave her a note stating to give him money or he would shoot her. The teller gave Wegge, who was wearing a large surgical bandage over his face, $1,300 before leaving the bank.

A Muskego detective believed the description match a previous robbery in Greenfield. When banks were robbed in Oak Creek and New Berlin, the detective realized the suspect in the 2012 robberies matched the description of the suspect in the 2008 bank robberies.

Wegge admitted to the five robberies, according to the complaint, telling the detective he used his twin’s car to drive to the bank in Muskego. He said he had a few beers for “liquid courage” before holding up Citizen’s Bank of Mukwonago.
