UW-Waukesha Associate Dean Died Tuesday Morning
Memorial service will be held on UW-Waukesha campus Jan. 7.
University of Wisconsin-Waukesha’s associate dean, Phil Zweifel, passed away early Tuesday morning, according to an e-mail sent to campus faculty and staff.
“I can’t begin to express how sad I am personally and how saddened the entire UW-Waukesha and UW Colleges communities are at this news,” said Harry Muir, UW-Waukesha’s dean, in the e-mail to campus employees. “Phil is and always will be an important part of the fabric that binds this community together. Please keep the Zweifel family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.”
Funeral arrangements are pending. The UW-Waukesha campus is planning a Jan. 7 memorial service for Zweifel but further details are pending.

Phil wasn't just an former professor who helped me realize my love of jazz, but also a part of the scholarship committee I apply to. Losing him is a huge loss to the university and the people who knew him. It's gonna be weird walking past the bridge and not seeing Phil with a cigarette in his hand by the library doors chatting up various people. Bye Phil and thanks so much for being a great guy. We're gonna miss you so much. ):

I attended UW-W between 1982-3 and again from '86-87, and Phil was one of my mentors. He was a terrific teacher, particularly of writing; and also a kind, gentle guy. We hadn't spoken in recent years, but we did exchange emails a few months ago. He invited me to visit him; I said I would when time permitted. It never did, much to my regret.
God bless you, Phil, and rest in peace.

What a life and what a loss – for me and for so many.
I knew no one who met people with more kindness, fairness and wisdom that did Phil Zweifel.

Dr. Zweifel was my faculty mentor when I was a student at UW-Waukesha in the early 1980's. No other educator in my college career had a more memorable impact on my education. I have been fortunate enough to become friends with him in recent years through our mutual service on the UW-Waukesha Foundation Board. I could not agree more with the other comments about what a kind and caring person he was. This news is heart-breaking.

I was an ad hoc for two years at UWW.
Phil helped me find better jobs long after I left.
While he always had a profound, positive impact on my life, I never thanked him enough for turning me on to Bob Dylan.
My condolences to the family and my gratitude for my time with him.

I knew Phil since about 1980, attending UWW as an older student. I and other students/professors all have a great time together and Phil was part of that group. We had fun during student get togethers, happy hours, etc. He was also a great person with a great sense of humor. I remember during one happy hour he put on my heels and posed. I still have that picture. I talked to him via email about a year ago; it was great to be reconnected. My prayers and sympathy to his family and other friends. He was a great soul who will be missed by all , but never forgotten. Rest in peace my friend. Love and prayers, Susan Brown, 505-232-2626
