Update: Mayor Scrima Reimburses City for Book Purchases
Controversial books were purchased from Waukesha mayor's campaign contributor.
Mayor Jeff Scrima has paid the city back for the purchase of copies of a controversial book that raised questions about Christian overtones.
The book, Sequencing: Deciphering Your Company's DNA, is published by a campaign contributor of the mayor. Gary Lato, the contributor, introduced the book to Scrima.
"To avoid any suspicion of conflict of interest, I have voluntarily reimbursed the city for the Sequencing – Deciphering Your Company’s DNA book," said Scrima in an e-mail to the Waukesha Common Council members.
Scrima previously told Waukesha Patch that he purchased the books directly from the publisher instead of on Amazon.com because it saved the city about $100.
Scrima reimbursed the city for the purchase of the books, which was about $400, according to a cashier's check that was given to the Finance Department early Friday afternoon
