True Love or Truly Not Love?

With Valentine's Day, Waukesha Patch wants to hear the stories of true love or awful dates.

It is Valentine’s Day weekend and among all the flowers, hearts, candy, jewelry and wine, there are stories of true love out there.

To quote my all-time favorite movie, “Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world – except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe.”

So, unless there are some fantastic MLTs out there that you can tell me to try, the Jane Austen-reader in me wants to hear your stories of your true love.

How did you meet that special person? What is it about them that makes them so amazing? When did you know that your true love would forever change your life?

True love doesn’t come without its hardships. How did you come through those life problems still caring about each other?

Of course, maybe true love hasn’t come your way yet. Instead, to use another Princess Bride quote to illustrate my point, you haven’t had someone say “as you wish” and mean it.

Instead, you can relate to dating Prince Humperdinck (or his female equivalence).

“Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it. I'm swamped.”

There are plenty of bad date stories out there and during a weekend when it is all about hearts, romantic movies and an overload of pink and red (I recently spent the day with my 9-year-old sister who said she goes color blind when she is in stores at this time of year), sometimes it is refreshing to hear the stories of truly bad dates.

Know that you aren’t alone. At running the risk that these bad dates will see this and make an awkward situation worse, I’ll break the ice.

There was that one guy that talked about eating raw meat. I don’t want to say anything else because he probably already knows I am writing about that date….

Or how about the time I went out with this one man who had issues with every single idea I suggested. So we sat and he talked. He talked for two hours about his life, his job and him, him, him.

He continuously blasted the media. Nothing I haven’t heard before, but I sat there for two hours wondering when the question would come.

He turned to me.

“So, what do you do?”

Yep, that date was done.

So share your stories of true love or truly bad dates. We want to hear them all, just keep them PG!
