Tommy Thompson's Son Jokes About Sending Obama Back to Kenya [Video]

Former governor says he was unaware of comment made by his son at Kenosha fundraiser on Sunday. Jason Thompson has now issued an apology.

UPDATE: Jason Thompson, former governor Tommy Thompson's son, issues an apology for a joke he made about Obama yesterday.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Kenosha on Sunday, the son of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson joked about sending President Barack Obama back to Kenya.

ORIGINAL STORY: Jason Thompson spoke at a GOP brunch attended by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and state party Chairman Brad Courtney.

As seen on a YouTube video, Jason Thompson tells supporters: "We have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago — or Kenya."

Those in the room applauded the comment, and one woman can be heard saying, "We're taking donations for that Kenya trip."

Tommy Thompson, who apparently was not at the event, told reporters Sunday night that he was unaware of his son's comment. "I haven't seen a video," he said.

Asked whether he was at the fundraiser, Tommy Thompson said: "'I don't know what you're talking about," and repeated that he hadn't seen anything.

A spokesman for Thompson's campaign told the website BuzzFeed, which first reported the incident, that Jason Thompson "said something that he should not have and he apologizes."

Thompson is locked in a tight battle for the U.S. Senate race with Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, whose campaign declined to comment on the incident.

Graeme Zielinski, communications director for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, said: "These tactics have no place in our politics and we hope Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Reince Preibus will disavow these comments immediately."

How is it bigoted and ignorant when Michelle Obama previously disclosed that Barack considers Kenya to be his "home country?"

Honestly what is Hoffa missing here?

It is sad that you guys on the left are race baiting as much as you possibly can before this election - Hoffa thought that we were getting beyond such blatant displays of racism, but apparently not!

Thomson is ignorant racist, but it doesn't matter. Romney will never be President.

@Hoffa - Apparently Thompson's own campaign managers felt the comment was racist and bigoted and uncalled for, otherwise they wouldn't have apologized for it now, would they?

What is more disturbing is the you tube video "Obama and Khalid Mansour." There's a facebook post on Walker Walkers of Fort Atkinson facebook page that traces some of the Saudi Oil monies going to American universities since WWII when we wanted diplomats trained for overseas positions. Then research King Fahd and you'll see how billions have been given to major colleges and even smaller ones to set up Mulim studies departments and to appoint Muslim professors to political science departments, etc.. If you folks aren't willing to do the homework-that will show ignorance!

Thompson doesn't think for Hoffa - only Hoffa thinks for Hoffa, thank you very much! And Hoffa stands by his original comment, no matter what anyone else says, because it's wholly supported by objective facts and reaches a logical conclusion premised upon those facts.

Thompson is just playing it safe for political/electoral reasons.

The billionaire comments are repeated rhetoric from your news sources MSNBC and the other left wing propaganda news. Since when has working hard to be successful been a bad thing-Since Barrack Obama has been in the White House. Now success is scorned. Romney donated 30% to charity-are you saying he doesn't care? What a dolt you are. All the nasty stuff the Dems have done-the latest stuff is beat up Chad Lee's campaign manager, and Sen. Why do Romney's tax records concern you so much for? How do his tax records change his asserted policy positions in either is five point plan or his 57 point plan?

When George Romney was Governor of Michigan, the state was prosperous. State and federal office buildings in Lansing are named after him, out of such recognition.

Hoffa used to live in Lansing, MI. Granholm was a disaster that Michigan continues to pay the price for! And most of Detroit's ills are directly resultant of the local tax and spend Democratic regime that controls the City and surrounding Counties - it's almost as corrupt as the Chicago Democratic political machine.

Why does Mitt being LDS have such a bearing on your opinion - are you a religious bigot? The LDS are actually very successful in their humanitarian outreach efforts to people of all faiths.

States being sold to China?!?! Isn't that exactly what Obama is doing by adding $6T in new debt under his watch, after complaining about how Bush was allegedly unpatriotic for adding $4T over 8 years?

You say to vote your mind, but you apparently haven't thought your decision through very well!

Where's the hateful crap exactly?

What's hateful is you calling republicans "sick" and "Brown shirts."

First off, the government doesn't own and operate restaurants - you apparently mean a privately owned restaurant open to the public to patronize. The country has never had a $10T deficit - what in the hell are you talking about?

As far as accumulated debt is concerned:

When W took office, the national debt stood at $5.727T
When W left office, the national debt stood at $10.628T

Source: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/NPGateway

Accordingly, Bush added $4.901T over 8 years.
At the end of his term, Obama will have added over $6T in 4 years.

The fact is these people are the one who want their Social Security, their Medicare and their Medicaid that won't be there much longer. Republican Paul Ryan's budget voucherizes Medicare. He and most of the tea party in our Congress are wealthy and don't care about the middle class or the poor. They sure don't care about them having any benefits. But republicans by all means stab yourselves in the back because you only watch the republican network run by republican billionaires Richard Murdock and Roger Ailes and also owned by a Saudi Prince. Just right wing trash against President Obama and Democrats around the clock. They should know that the republicans instead of doing one thing after taking over Congress in 2010 on jobs. They did not work one minute to create any jobs. They lied. But they did go right after women's rights to decide what they can do concerning birth control, invitro-fertilization and abortion. 1) you are pulling from years to come up with a couple fo examples from Democrats, when there isn't a day that goes by that the Republicans don't say something objectifying people by race, gender or religious beliefs.

2) Even in your examples, there isn't anything inherently divisive about redistribution. You may not believe in it, but there isn't anything fundamentally divisive about it. I am a business owner for the past 15 years and I always thought that we pay a ridiculously low amount of taxes and I have always had our accountants on board with us paying our fair share. Similarly, you can find multitudes of millionaires, billionaires and business owners who think similarly, all the way up to Warren Buffett. So you can only say that is divisive up to the point that some people believe that the wealthy should be putting more back into the system that enabled them to get there...and then some people don't.

It is sad because the people arguing such don't realise it is irrelevant. It doesn't matter why someone might believe he was born in Kenya. Stating that he should go back there is still racist. Even if he was just some guy on the street, some guy who said he was from Kenya, if you tell him he should go back there, you are being racist. It is sad that the people posting cannot see this at all.

And that is why it is so apparent what fuels their belief system. Why all the thinnest of strands of argument are called out for being racist. Why everyone points out that the only reason they think he was born elsewhere is because he looks different. It's because they already show their racism with pride.

You do know the difference between a Keynesian and a Kenyan, right? Never underestimate the willful ignorance of a liberal democrat.

What if it's a white guy?

Has Obama eliminated deportation authority of ICE? If he hasn't, then I guess he's a racist for having people sent back to their home countries...

Why exactly is that statement racist? Would it be racist to tell me to go back Germany because my grandfather was from there? You simply see a poorly executed comment on a controversy (real or imagined it is pretty substantial) surrounding the President, and because Barack Hussein Obama is African-American, you just have to throw the "Racist" label on it.

To paraphrase Sigmund Freud, sometimes a bad joke is just a bad joke!

@The Anti-Alinsky: Certainly if someone suggests you go back to Germany because of your German ancestry, that is racist. Just as the anti-Irish sentiment of the late 1800's was racist. Racism is any negative judgement, suggestion, opinion, etc. that is reached by reference to the target's ancestry.

This isn't really vague in anyway. It should have been taught by family far before leaving elementary school. You don't attack people because of generalities of their perceived origin.

Looking for some way to spin it so that he should have been allowed this comment is a sickness. If somehow you were raised such that this is okay because it's politics, or meant as a joke, or has been said by others, then you were simply raised wrong. You do not make negative judgements on someone based on their perceived origins. Period. Not as a joke. Not in "good fun". You don't do it.

And you don't get upset that the racist label is being used correctly. Again, it only illustrates an inner self that may not want to be shown widely.

Is it being suggested that Obama go back to Kenya because he is Kenyan or is it being suggested that Obama go back to Kenya because Kenya is his homeland?

It's only news because you are trying to make it news. It was a poorly executed bad joke.
It doesn't mean Tommy Thompson is a racist.
It doesn't mean Jason Thompson is a racist.
If that statement were to make Tommy a racist, than you must be labelled an anti-Semite for insulting Hoffa as often as you do!

Actually I don't know if Hoffa is Jewish, but knowing how much you hate him for taking you to the woodshed so often, I figured he was the best person to use to illustrate the point!

We talk here often about good old American values but that's far from peoples mind here.

What tommy Thompson's son isn't necessarily racist, but he certainly knew the significance of saying what he did. The implication that President Obama really isn't an American. The Birthers loved it.

Yes birthers loved it. Just like all the people around Romney would have loved it. Just like all the people around most republicans would love it. We who are not republicans are sickened by the low information people who have no facts and have no decency and won't look up the facts that they are determined to believe but that are lies.
