Scott Walker for President in 2016?
With a couple of key moves in recent few days, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker sends clear signal that he is interested in making a presidential run.
Editor's note: This story was updated at 4:50 p.m. Saturday to include CPAC straw poll results.
Coming off Mitt Romney's defeat in November, Republicans are looking for a strong candidate who will give the party a chance at taking back the White House in 2016.
Could Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker be their man?
Even before the November presidential election, there has been speculation that Walker — along with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and others — would go after the GOP nomination in 2016.
And in an interview with Politico on Friday, Walker did little to quell that speculation.
“Would I ever be (interested)?" Walker told the political web site. "Possibly. I guess the only thing I’d say is I’m not ruling it out."
Walker also declined to say whether he would finish out his second term as governor if he is re-elected in 2014.
“For me, it’s really a measure of what I’ve accomplished and what more I could accomplish if I was in a different position,” Walker told Politico.
Walker spoke at the high-profile Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C, on Saturday morning, where he told the audience that the states — including Wisconsin — were leading the way to reforming government, the Huffington Post reported.
"Real reform does not happen in Washington, it happens in the statehouses throughout this country," Walker said, noting that he, in particular, was leading the way to end "government dependency."
Walker and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan also were among 23 Republicans whose names on a 2016 presidential straw poll ballot at CPAC on Saturday. Walker placed sixth in the poll, which was won by U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, according to Politico. Walker received 5 percent of the vote, while Ryan came in fifth with 6 percent.
Walker's appearance at CPAC and his comments to Politico come just days after it was announced that the governor will be the keynote speaker at a county Republican fundraiser in Iowa, a key state for anyone with presidential aspirations.
Walker agreed to speak at the Polk County GOP dinner in late May, according to Patch's media partner WISN 12 News.
The latest speculation about Walker making a White House run prompted ridicule from Mike Tate, chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party:
"That Scott Walker would openly contemplate a run for president after a dismal record of job loss, division, diminished standards and unethical conduct is shocking in itself. And it says something about this Republican Party that the best they can do is a governor whose failed policies have caused his state to plummet to 42nd in the nation in job growth and last in the Midwest in every economic indicator.
“Scott Walker is openly and baldly displaying that he would rather serve his ambition than the people of Wisconsin. Which is disappointing, but not surprising.”

Oh yeah, Scott Walker has killed more people than Mao and Stalin together from the sound of things. That must explain why we have lower unemployment than neighboring states and lower taxes at the same time. I can't honestly name a single thing Walker or any past governor of Wisconsin has done that has had a measurable positive impact on the lives of myself or my loved ones. So maybe Tate should take his self-righteous hyperbole and shove it.

After living in tosa in 1996 When Scott Walker was my assembly rep. and being lied to about the staduim tax, which he voted against then for ( In 1996).And indicating it would be a short term tax. He needs to pay for that one!!! and this tax is still effecting Racine. IN my estimation he is not an Honorable Man.
Gary Tefft
4:02 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2013
For Walker to claim that he's a Conservative after voting for the stadium tax shows how phony he is. Professional sports teams generate sufficient revenue to fund their own stadiums. If he was willing to pick the public's purse to build a place for millionaires to play ballgames, he's worse than a mere tax and spend Liberal.
Di Atribe
10:04 am on Monday, March 18, 2013
Living in a large-enough city to have professional sports requires helping to fund the stadium. It's reality these days. For you to whine about $30-$50 a year or so, while reaping the benefits of having the Brewers here is childish. Hundreds of people work for the Brewers, we all have the opportunity to go to games with our friends and families, and we've had some excitement provided by the players for the last few years.
Seriously--if your life is any different because of the stadium tax (which is short term by definition, since it ends when the agreed-upon amount is eventually met) you need to get a better handle on you expenses. There has never been a time in my life where I was close to death because I was spending $1 per week on something else.

So far all that Walker has shown is that he is adept at tearing things down --- that only works for so long, and then you have to start building --- I don't think he is capable of doing that, which does not bode well for his political future, and Wisconsin's future is not looking so good either.
I think that Chris Christie would be electable if he were to change parties --- not because there is anything wrong with his being a Republican --- but the hard core Repubs will never let him get on the ballot.

If Gov. Walker were to run, he would be sliced, diced, boiled in oil, and castrated in the primaries. There he would have to move so far to the right of Rand Paul, that he would be in danger of falling off the edge of this flat dish plate we call planet earth. The TP/GOP would not give him their endorsement unless he came out with positions such as:
1) Public beheadings for anyone – the mother included – involved in any abortion
2) All forms of contraception are banned in the United States of America
3) Only Anglo-Saxton people may live in and be citizen in the United States of America
4) Corporations should not have to pay any taxes; everyone else is taxed at 45%
5) Any person over age 65 shall be placed in a small row boat, tied down, and be moved and anchored to the middle of Lake Michigan, every December
6) Only Christians’ and the Christian religion will be allow in the United States of America
7) Evolution is banned in the United States of America
8) Anyone caught engaging in a homosexual act will be burnt at the stake in the public square at noon on the same day
Assuming Gov. Walker would champion – these are just a sampling of positions the TP/GOP favors – these types of positions, I am reasonable confident that he could win the primaries.

We are told that everyone does not need a college degree. But then, he never even got a two year technical degree, or even graduated from an apprenticeship program. So what was his career path? Apparently, he was majoring in crooked politics.

@busybee -- We've had some very good Presidents who lacked a college degree. I have seen some college graduates who are neither educated nor intellectually curious. They just went through the motions.
Scott Walker's recent speech at CPAC reminded me of those professional athletes who have managed to memorize a few platitudes and mouth them back during interviews -- no substance at all. So the important thing to ask would be why he made it into his senior year at Marquette and couldn't put in the extra few months' effort to finish.
@Dirk Gutzmiller -- Walker majored in Poli Sci, so he must have learned a few things. Unfortunately, that seems to have consisted of glad-handing, back-slapping and sucking up to the right people in order to get a job.

@Randy1949 - Walker was a political science major? I guess then he did have a career path charted out, that of career politician.
His 2010 campaign said his GPA was 2.59. So that was predictive, as he did become a mediocre politician, at best.
This whole Marquette thing is very juicy, and will explode when he gets more of the national media's attention. Much bigger than Romney's bullying at the prep school, particularly if the rumors are true about his being kicked out of Marquette.

What matter a college degree, at least weknow something about Walker and his credentials, more than we can say about the occupant of the White House. In fact, where were you people in 2007, 2008 when Mr. O was running for office, could have used some good old fashioned vetting of him. Here we are 5 years later and we still don't know Mr.O's grade point average and whether or not he could pass a security clearance check like I was required to obtain in my National Guard days. Frankly, I don't care whether Walker runs for President in 2016 or not, what I do care about is fair and honest vetting of any candidate who runs for the highest office in our country with no exceptions and by the way that would include medical information to whcih at least we had on Bush/ Cheney and Clinton.

2. Eliminate the National Debt – on the backs of the middle class
3. Eliminate Deficit Spending – with out asking the most successful to help at all
4. Protect Free Markets – by outsourcing every American job overseas
5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States – eliminating all the Amendments in which we disagree
6. Promote Civic Responsibility – just as long as that means discrimination (Muslim, Gay, Women…)
7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government – to only fit in a woman’s doctors’ office or our bedrooms
8. Believe in the People – only as long as they are Judeo Christian.
9. Avoid the Pitfalls of Politics – by accepting every special interest and SuperPAC dollar available. Never mind that just happens to be the biggest pitfall in our political system.

“Dennis Marker has always believed in making his own rules. In grade school and high school, this meant lots of trouble and many tests of will, which Dennis believes he won. In university, this meant periodic years off for travel, work and whatever else he felt like doing…”
“He first went to D.C. with democratic congressman Stan Lundine…”
“A summer internship at the Environmental Protection Agency led to a job offer as an in-house consultant to Doug Costle, the Administrator of that agency.”
“…helped launch and direct progressive non-profits, including Witness for Peace and the Pledge of Resistance, while continuing to enjoy himself.”
“During this period Marker built strong relationships with mainstream media personalities …”
“…where Marker became a leading spokesperson opposing the policies of President Reagan and the first President Bush.”
In other words, Marker is a bigger Propagandist than John Wilson (if that is his real name).

@Patriot....What does Detroit have to do with this discussion? Detroit is a complex issue that has involved a number of deep structural issues, of which I think would be beyond your comprehension.
The idea of someone like Scott Walker as U.S. president is wrong on a number of levels. He has little or nothing to qualify him for such high office other than an ambition beyond his abilities. He has yet to deal with a divided legislature to get his policies passed, he's only dealt with a rubber stamp legislature.

I lived there and have been there many times since. When the auto companies, mainly GM started to close down older plants they didn't replace them; they just abandoned the area. Pontiac was a one employer, single industry city, same with Flint. GM move away and cities die.
So unless you have lived there or spent any time there you don't have a witless clue about what your are talking about.

Yes, it was proven that a line-up of occupants of a Clown Bus could be President. Let's see if we can remember them all.
First to bail was our neighbor Timmie Pawlenty, who played the same game that Walker is following. Borrow long term debt an say you have balanced the budget. Then there was Bat-shit Crazy Bachmann who gave away free food at the Iowa Straw Poll. Then Pizza Man 9-9-9 Herman tanked. Rick Perry who couln't remember how many Agencies he was going to close down.
It's hard to keep track of these geniuses, but around that time Moon Base Gingrich tanked. And finally Rick Sanitarium gave up the ghost so that Willard got the nod.
Yes, Willard who thought that the trees in Michigan were "the right height",
It was proven that not "anybody" could be elected President. Your bifurcated "Party" is now concentrating on filling yet another Clown Bus -- Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush (as if anybody would vote for another member of that Crime Family). Let the "Re-branding" begin.

Once you have finished these, you must take a trip to Lourdes, Our Lady of Lourdes in France, and you will be required to drink 15-liters of the “Holy Water” per day, for a period of 7-days.

Walker is a male version of Sarah Palin. They both have no background for the job of President. How could anyone take such candidates seriously? The Koch brothers, the backers of most Republican extremist causes, want to be the power behind the throne of this country. Unfortunately, they want to keep us in thrall to the oil sheiks instead of developing this country's oil reserves. Republicans, and their lackey candidates, are so obsessed with non-issues (e.g. abortion, gay marriage, guns, etc) that they do nothing involving true statesmanship. Their obsession with making this become a more Christian country is not going to make politicians become more honest, no matter how many prayer breakfasts they attend. Starting meetings with a prayer, and having a chaplain doesn't seem to help either. The Republicans are always whining about taxes, except when it is to be spent on something THEY want (Usually further bloating the Pentagon, or a war with some ignorant country that we end up being trade partners with ten years later after our young men have been killed). America is a country that has historically been proud to help their less fortunate citizens. You can call this Socialism or whatever you want, but a more accurate description might be human kindness, decency, or even, ironically, Christian charity.

LBJ for worst:
One can finds the roots of the the major financial problems we face today in the major program 'starts' under LBJ.
He completely changed the structure of FRE and FME, moving them off the government balance sheet, making them quasi-governmental. This was done to hide the cost of the Vietnam war. (Read that our Mortgage / Housing Crisis).
Medicare / Medicaid - And its 3rd party, remove all traces of personal responsibility;time and again proven Failure, as a cost control model. Some(sadly) believe that cost shifting to a third party(government) where we are capable of some personal responsibility, can lead to any cost control and simultaneous quality outcomes (read it: our Exploding medical costs).
David Tatarowicz
11:21 am on Monday, March 18, 2013
@Jay I won't argue that LBJ was the best, he was the one who lost control in Vietnam -- but there was a lot that he did do, especially in regards to civil rights and social safety nets, which I understand you do not like,
Carter started the de-regulation that virtually every major financial crisis since his time has been responsible for --- ie. Savings and Loan, Wall Street Fraud, Banks mixing commercial and investment sectors, interstate banking, etc ........
Further de-regulation of trucking, electrical, gas, air travel and freight, etc, have all contributed to the shrinking of the middle class and unions --- which can do good or bad, just as management can.
I did have an even scarier thought just now about who could even be worse than Carter or Walker --- Donald Trump --- hard to imagine someone with so much who is such a Loser.
Jay Sykes
12:57 pm on Monday, March 18, 2013
@David.... Well, sure, I don't really like war;I dislike war.
I do favor a Competent social safety net. Can you show me one? (you know: it does what we expected to to do, with a defined set of resources, for the projected cost, in the delineated time, without significantly distorting the resource set for others)
Actually Carter piled on the deregulation movement, that LBJ began with FRE and FNM. How soon 'we' forget the dangers of the leverage used in banking. One might think that we never had a great depression.
Banking is a special case, due to fractional reserve the banks operate at 10:1 leverage, they need to be highly regulated. I can't find a reason to regulate any other competitive industry, like transportation, to the extent we 'should' be regulating banking.
From a macro perspective, I've never seen a cogent economic analysis that concludes that this country would be better off price regulating airlines, trucking or freight(rail).

Per John Wilson: "Dahmer merely cannibalized a few people"
The truth:
Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer (May 21, 1960 – November 28, 1994) was an American serial killer and sex offender. Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His murders involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism.
This is the subject that he makes lite of. Governor Walker compared to Dahmer, Governor Walker compared to Hitler, what sick thoughts. Shame, Shame, Shame...

@greg... as usual you have a serious lack of data. Check this article from that notoriously Left-wing Socialist Rag, Forbes. The article points out that Solyndra had attracted $1,000,000,000 (That's a big number for you) from private VC's such as Richard Branson and the Walton Family.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/energysource/2011/09/02/solyndras-failure-is-no-reason-to-abandon-federal-energy-innovation-policy/
Here are other success stories that the Energy Department has made that more than offset the Solyndra loss:
http://cleantechnica.com/2011/10/21/obama-doe-picked-more-energy-winners-than-silicon-valley-vcs/
Tesla Motors which received a similar loan guarantee as that of Solyndra just announced that it will be paying back the loan about nine years early.
I guess Michelle Malkin or whomever you get your non-facts hasn't mentioned that.
You wouldn't be able to post your lack of information if it hadn't been for the Feds investing in DARPA NET and ARPA Net which evolved into the Internet. Ever use a GPS device, Greg? Do you know who paid for the development and deployment of that?
By all means, depend upon private industry for basic research. Where did the original railroad network in the US come from? Who provided the land and support for the railroad barons? If you answered the US Government, you would be correct.

Much of the Koch money flows through these foundations into other organizations, whereit is further laundered into a third layer of organization.
So, Greg you ignored the fact that some smart VC's (that's Venture Capitalists) had already plowed $1,000,000,000 into Solydnra before Bush the Lesser's Energy Department initiated the possibilities of a loan.

Per Lyle Ruble:
"The idea of someone like Scott Walker as U.S. president is wrong on a number of levels. He has little or nothing to qualify him for such high office other than an ambition beyond his abilities."
And how is our current President any different? Have you followed his pitiful record as an IL Senator? And what, through his short tenure as a U.S. Senator, gave him any meaningful qualifications for President?
Face it: prior to his election, Obama's "qualifications" for office were those sought by the DNC in satisfaction of its election-based demographic objectives. Joe Biden could not have said it better:

To some limited extent, I agree with Lyle. What qualifies anyone to take on the role of president of the united states. How is anyone truly ready to take on one of the most powerful countries, militarily, culturally, and economically in the world.
Almost by definition, the one that takes that office has to be "on the job" trained. No one is ever truly qualified for it, because there is no other job like it.
So we try to find something comparable. Most political experts on both sides of the isle tend to prefer executive experience. It is the head of the executive branch after all, and executive office experience is probably the closest.
In that regard, Walker is far better prepared than our current president. Although, my guess would be that Lyle's problems are probably more with his outlook and less with his resume.

Personally, I think Walker, as the rich man's yes man has a good chance in 2016. Who will run against him? Hillary? The Dems have become very poor in candidate choice and support. I had to vote for a homosexual or bring back crooked, greedy, Thompson. Personally, I'd like to see Al Gore step up to the plate at the national level but he's not even a consideration. What did Walker do for Milw. Co? Did he straighten out the finances and get rid of the dead beats? No Siree. At the state level his choice of secretaries of departments is scary. All they are doing is de-stablizing major state departments and finances. His choice for secretary of Health and Social Services Dennis Smith imported his childhood girlfriend from Texas, They had an affair, her husband read her e's from Dennis Smith, beat her up and went public. Both resigned. Now, Walker's appointed Kitty and the departments a big mess but he's blaming it on Medicaid costs not incompetent employees. No, we need quality candidates to step up to the plate and they will not.

True Johnny, BUT only after
TARP (enacted late in Bush’s administration and administered under B.O.)
and ARRA (entirely B.O.)
and the B.O. Omnibus spending bill he signed on March 11, 2009 was added to the 2009 base line.

FTT has it spot on!
Looking at the actions of the multitude of local Tea Parties, spread across America - controlled by the ideology and money of both the Koch Brothers and huge corporations - it is clearly logical to perceive them as racist, discriminatory, misogynistic, bigoted, quisling, Anti-American and Anti-Government. Only someone completely indoctrinated and dripping with the stench of the TP/GOP would have the intellectual insincerity to attempt to defend them. They are true collaborationists in an attempt to destroy the Republic.
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, and Libby, at the very least, should be standing trial for their war crimes. It is only because of an error by President Obama, that he decided to not “go back” and expose these traitors and murders, because he wanted to “move forward” with a positive agenda that they thus far escaped justice. President Obama forgets or neglects to understand that sometimes you must “go back” in order to “move forward.”
"A Lie told often enough becomes the truth." - Vladimir Ilyich Lenin “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it” – Adolph Hitler"

Walker cannot run for President for one simple reason--he wouldn't withstand the scrutiny of not finishing college. If a business genius like Romney can't convince people the Liberal mindset is a bad idea for the country, a local lifelong politician, who is very good for our state but got lucky with timing during his ascent to higher office, doesn't stand a chance against the East Coast snooty-school elites who dictate the news conversation.
He will be unfairly likened to Sara Palin--a local pol who needed additional schooling.

Yes. It was the East Coast snooty-school elites that showed the world just how big of an idiot Sarah Palin is. It wasn’t her own power hungry hubris that broad her low. It was the media.

I understood Joe Liebermann was McCain's choice for running mate. Sarah Palin is a millionaire who won the Alaska governorship on a moderate platform. She was swept up as an unknown, re-costumed and given dialect training to create an average Midwestern middle-class soccer mom persona. A lot of folks fell for it but for many, including Republicans, it didn't quite ring true.
With her journalism degree Sarah was better suited to a different field and she used the political opportunity to launch herself into the communication field. Book deals, reality tv shows, political commentary, that's Sarah Palin's comfort zone (note that she resigned her governorship two years into her first term, having spent a good part of that time on the vice-presidential campaign trail). Had she remained true to her moderate platform, who knows, she might have successfully delivered the presidency to McCain.

The TP/GOP, through CPAC, is attempting to bring the country back to the 19th century…
"Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is 'scary,' 'narrow minded,' and 'out of touch' and that we were a Party of 'stuffy old men.' This is consistent with the findings of other post-election surveys." the report states.
The TP/GOP is going to attempt to seduce – the tanned people that they hate – with a softer, more harmonious verbal message in speeches and town hall meetings. In spite of the findings of their own report, they are firmly convinced that their IDEOLOGY IS SOUND, and they only need to “soften” up the “messaging”. They really believe that the real problem is POOR MARKETING!

The GOP is the White Party and we can’t expect nonwhites to share our white values and cultural traditions. They are derived from whiteness. This explains in part why blacks and Hispanics have problems relating conceptually with conservative politics. They don't think in such terms. They can't relate to them. It's foreign to their cultures and way of thinking. Blacks and Hispanics, in large numbers, will never align with the GOP or the Tea Party. It's not who they are. These people rightfully belong to the Democrat Party where American patriotism is downplayed or outright ignored and mocked; where government is promised to provide all of their needs; and where whitey is made the source of all that is wrong in the world. This is where they belong. That is their political and ideological home. They can stay there. It is inherently NOT conservative to pander to an ethnic group that does not in the main believe in conservative principles. True conservatism rejects the entitlement mentality and just as importantly embraces and promotes traditional Western cultural values rooted in religious and enlightenment values.

The Republicans or better the Tea party conservatives can have some success if they bring a true message of hope to the black and hispanic communities by visiting them in their places of worship to begin with and demonstrate how the democrats have kept them enslaved and controlled with their dastardly divisive tactics. Conservatism is the product of the authoritarian mind; one that is obedient to all authority; is unthinking; and is unable and unwilling to accept new ideas. Conservatives are incapable of weighing ideas from different points of view as anything outside of orthodoxy literrally hurts their brains. Second, even you understand that there is usually a vast difference between what an organization says – to attract membership – and what is done in reality.
Third, the Tea Party has largely been co-opted by the Koch Brothers, big corporate interests, Fundamentalist Christians and the money that these folks have funneled into the plethora of TP “local” organizations.
What does portraying President Obama at rallies as a gorilla, selling watermelons, eating bananas, wearing a Hitler mustache, calling him a Marxist, a Communist, a Socialist and many, many other derogatory names have to do with promoting TP “values” or planks?

In an August 30, 2010, article in The New Yorker, Jane Mayer said that the billionaire brothers David H. Koch and Charles G. Koch andKoch Industries are providing financial and organizational support to the Tea Party movement through Americans for Prosperity, which David founded.[222][223] The AFP's "Hot Air Tour" was organized to fight against taxes on carbon use and the activation of a cap and trade program.[224] In 1984, David Koch also founded Citizens for a Sound Economy,[225] part of which became FreedomWorks in a 2004 split, another group that organized and supports the movement.[226] Koch Industries issued a press release stating that the Kochs have "no ties to and have never given money to FreedomWorks".[227] Former ambassador Christopher Meyer writes in the Daily Mail that the Tea Party movement is a mix of "grassroots populism, professional conservative politics, and big money", the last supplied in part by Charles and David Koch.[228] Jane Mayer says that the Koch brothers' political involvement with the Tea Party has been so secretive that she labels it "covert".[229]

Tea Party plank #1) Eliminate Excessive Taxes
http://www.forbes.com/sites/beltway/2012/03/23/paul-ryans-budget-plan-more-big-tax-cuts-for-the-rich/
“TPC found that in 2015, relative to today’s tax system, those making $1 million or more would enjoy an average tax cut of $265,000 and see their after-tax income increase by 12.5 percent. By contrast, half of those making between $20,000 and $30,000 would get no tax cut at all. On average, people in that income group would get a tax reduction of $129. Ryan would raise their after-tax income by 0.5 percent. Nearly all middle-income households (those making between $50,000 and $75,000) would see their taxes fall, by an average of roughly $1,000. Ryan would increase their after-tax income by about 2 percent.”

Tea Party plank #2) Eliminate the National Debt
http://www.forbes.com/sites/beltway/2012/03/23/paul-ryans-budget-plan-more-big-tax-cuts-for-the-rich/
“”Earlier this week, TPC projected the tax cuts in Ryan’s budget would add $4.6 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade, even after extending the 2001/2003 tax cuts, which would add another $5.4 trillion to the deficit.”
Tea Party plank #3) Eliminate Deficit Spending
http://www.forbes.com/sites/beltway/2012/03/23/paul-ryans-budget-plan-more-big-tax-cuts-for-the-rich/
“And since no high-profile Republicans want to raise taxes on gains and dividends (and many would cut investment taxes even further) this budget would likely result in a huge tax cut for those who need it least. That’s not a great way to start an exercise whose stated goal is to eliminate the budget deficit.”

But let take your silly arguments the direction you are headed. If the Koch brothers do contribute to any or all three, so what? The Kochs support an ideology of smaller government and more open markets. As long as AFP, TP and FW are working towards those goals I can support them. As far as controlling those three organizations, again show me where that is happening. If your implying that their donations will dried up if they don’t do exactly as the Kochs say, that is speculation on your part. The Koch Brothers, and the huge corporations are not interested in “small government” nor are they interested in “limited government…” their real goal is “no government.”
You may support “small government” if you care to, that is your right to cling to any ideology, no matter how unworkable, unsustainable and insipid. It sounds like something one would read on a bumper sticker, “I’m for small government!” That might have made some sense in 1776, when America had a population of 3M and we were writing with quill pens. In 2013 we have a population of 311M and computers do the bulk of our work. Grover wants to drown “government” in a bathtub; the Koch Brothers want the same thing, as do the rest of the gaudy and grotesquely rich. Why? As for apologizing for links between the unions and Democrats I can't. I never claimed make that connection. I have stated things the unions have done, such as bus thousands of people in for the Capitol protests, and providing the bus for the fleeing 14. In addition, Kathleen Falk accepted the union endorsement/money by being the first to declare she would overturn Act 10. I will say that Democrats are very sensitive to union desires and leave it at that.
John Wilson (if that is your real name), I have never advocated for no government. We need some form, the idea is to limit it to those things we truly need, a court system to solve disputes, some form of organized military to protect us, as well as other things we can not do alone, such as roads, schools and sanitary systems. It is the overreach of government that is the problem.
Do we need Obama-NOcare to dictate how healthcare is to be run? No, we need some regulation, but the free market system will provide a stable and economic way to run it.
Do we need the EPA to dictate how and when we can build homes (on top of local entites)?

As for, “I said while the Koch bros. have contributed to AFP, TP and FW, I asked for evidence that they control ANY of those groups. You are not going to find a smoking gun here; the Koch Brothers are not going to be going on national TV anytime soon declaring, “We control the TP through our donations, directions, and edicts.” And while these multiple TP organizations all claim independence and private funding, they are nothing short of puppets to the Koch's.

The best part of it is that the TEAPublicans don't realize that they are making ever greater fools of themselves when they feature in the center ring of the TEAPublican Circus people like Half-governor Sarah Palin; ultimate loser Willard Romoney; way past his sell date Newt Gingrich; the present day re-incarnation of Joe McCarthy Ted Cruz. A bare 52 percent majority of GOP voters gave Ryan positive marks, down from 83 percent when he was selected as the Republicans' vice presidential nominee in August 2012.
According to Rasmussen, that puts Ryan far behind Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in terms of popularity within his own party. Ryan also finished a distant fifth in this past weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll, taking 6 percent of the vote.

Wisconsin County Leaders Call on Legislature to Overturn Gov. Walker's Shameful Rejection of Medicaid Dollars
On a media call today, county officials from throughout Wisconsin pushed for the Wisconsin Legislature to overturn the decision by Governor Walker to reject billions in federal Medicaid funds for the state’s BadgerCare program. ....
... To date, elected officials from over 20 Wisconsin counties have expressed strong interest in this concept.
..... “However, it is not too late to accept these funds. This is the right thing to do in order to save the state and county money, create jobs and foster a healthier Wisconsin.”
.... "The legislature can save lives and dollars, all they have to do is overturn Walker's rejection."
“It is clear that WalkerCare means less health security for Wisconsin families for more money,”.... “If the Legislature does not overturn his decision, Walker should have the decency to enable Wisconsin counties to use the federal dollars he is leaving on the table to extend health coverage for their own residents.”
....
There is no deadline for accepting enhanced federal Medicaid dollars ...

The legislature will, in all probability, go against Gov. Walker and ultimately accept the Medicaid dollars. There is a great deal of opposition to Walker’s decision to bypass this money, mostly by businesses and the health care industry, his base.
Further, the “borrowing” of $1B by Walker is also a very problematic issue, as we remain 44th in job creation. Knowing Gov. Walker, the light bulb will begin to glow later, much later, when he finally understands you cannot “create jobs” by forcing half of Wisconsin to live on unemployment and Medicaid; “austerity” is great – look at the UK and EU – if you are a monk in a monastery…

Do you honestly believe that 'amount of sunlight, rainfall or snowfall' is at all related to wages? Do you think it is wrong that 'occupations held, hours worked or length of tenure' factor in to the amount that people are paid?
As I stated before, the figure Keith cited is not an apples to apples comparison. Unlike you, I consider it 'flawed analysis' to complain about a wage gap and then as 'evidence' compare the pay of a male engineer to a female burger flipper (for example). Yes, there is a wage gap between the two workers, but most people would agree that the wage gap in the example isn't because of discrimination, and isn't unfair.
Where there should be concern is in situations of equal pay for equal work, not the generalized 'females only earn 77% of what males earn' crap that the left keeps pushing.

Corporal Midnight, I am offended by your insensitivity towards clowns and your lack of knowledge about clowns as well. The clowns that I know are extremely intelligent, have a wonderful sense of humor and take pride in making others, many less fortunate, feel good. They bring smiles and laughter to the faces of most they cross paths with. In Europe clowns are revered and the profession is one of great admiration. Those professionals for ages have given of themselves to help the less fortunate in this world enjoy a happier life for at least a few moments. Your snarky, disrespectful clown bus allusions are extremely offensive.

Governors only create public sector jobs. They only thing they can do for the private sector is create an ENVIRONMENT for job growth. Regardless of where Governor Walker's job creation numbers are at the moment, it is guaranteed to be better than the 121,000 lost under Diamond Jim Doyle's administration!
(cue John Wilson -if that is his real name- with some inane comment)
Keith Schmitz

Actually it would be great to have Doyle's job creation record back. Sure, up until 2009 things weren't too hot in Wisconsin in terms of jobs, just like in the rest of the country. Then Wisconsin's job picture began to improve through 2010 (the election was in November). As soon as Walker's policies took over in 2011, job numbers dropped. In fact Doyle did better in his last year with than Walker has done going forward -- and this with jobs improving everywhere else.
Why are you accepting such poor performance? For a few bucks in tax relief, which when it comes out in the wash probably isn't happening anyways?

Hey, it is the TP/GOP "free market" way... they go into “Business”, drive out all competitors, and we taxpayers get to pay their employees with Medicaid, Badger care, food stamps and emergency services… I guess that is what the TP/GOP considers RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS BEHAVIOR...
"Unfortunately, "working up the wage scale" isn't happening at our nation's largest employer: The average Walmart associate earns just $8.81 an hour. In addition, it has been calculated that if the minimum wage had kept up with inflation, the rate would be $10.55 an hour. Considering that a recent study found that one in four private sector workers in the United States were being paid less than $10 an hour, Johnson's claim that few are living on minimum wage salary simply isn't true.
And, let's not forget that this is the same Walmart that drives other employers out of business with their predatory pricing and drives U.S. manufacturing employers out of business by pumping in cheap products from overseas. Johnson patronizes Sanders, saying raising the minimum wage "is well intentioned," but not how the real world's free market works, however it is clearly Johnson that doesn't understand that a Walmart economy isn't how a free market is supposed to operate."

Proposed Income Tax Cut Likely to Hurt, Rather than Help Wisconsin Economy
March 25, 2013
The income tax cut proposed for Wisconsin is more likely to hurt, rather than help the state economy, if past history in other states continues to hold true.
Critics of the income tax cut have raised a number of concerns about the proposal, including:
■Half of the benefit of the tax cut accrues to the top 20% of earners, even though its proponents have described the tax cut as being targeted at the middle class.
■Most workers earning $30,000 a year or less would not receive an income tax cut. These workers pay a higher share of their income in state and local taxes than the best off.
■The tax cut reduces state revenue by about $170 million per year, and is partly responsible for the projected re-opening of the state’s structural deficit in the coming years.
Added to this list of concerns is the fact that the tax cut is not likely to help Wisconsin’s economy, and in fact could do the opposite. A new report by .................found that those states lagged the rest of the country in economic growth.....

The TP/GOP is no longer a political party. They more closely resemble a terrorist organization as they hold the nation hostage to achieve their political goals. They seek to impose their will on an ignorant segment of society who they whip into frenzy, behind the cloak of racism and intolerance. They insult the American worker by insinuating that he is to blame for the economic mess that the millionaire/billionaires and congress created. They beat their chests for the unborn but put increasingly lethal weapons into the hands of those who threaten the living. They encourage division and despair. Their followers, although a minority, hurl insults and provocations towards their fellow Americans and the very leader of the nation himself. Charles Manson could not hope to accomplish so much. Their fascist’s tendencies grow by the hour and yet an apathetic nation stands by with a "what me worry” attitude. The damage they perpetuate against this nation is more destructive than any foreign perceived threat. They have become Anathema and their legacy is complete lunacy.

Walker is honestly one of the dumbest men to buy his way into politics besides Ron Johnson.

Look at every measure under Walker and it is a tale of failure. He is a horrible speaker and looks stoned most of the time (or stupid). His speech impediment is distracting. His wife is 12 years older, looks like his Mother. As a brand, he is hard to swallow - hard right, rigid, nerdy, record of failure, egotistical, narcissistic, drop-out, 2.67 GPA, unattractive, short, speech impediment, obese wife...just not a brand people will warm up to.

Our Part-Time Governor
http://www.germantownnow.com/blogs/communityblogs/199968011.html
The Governor of Wisconsin makes $144,423 per year. He gets a car and a rent-free home. He gets full benefits, a pension plan, a personal staff, and many other perks. While such compensation is not unduly high for the chief executive of a state, in return we expect someone who works full time on behalf of the people of Wisconsin.
Instead, the citizens of Wisconsin have a leader whose main emphasis is not on our state's welfare. We are paying the salary for a person whose number one goal is to position himself for a Presidential campaign. This positioning provides us a Governor who is frequently absent from his job. It gives us a Governor whose decisions are made for his own political purposes rather than for the good of the state.
Throughout Walker's career, he has consistently neglected his current responsibilities to focus on reaching the next higher office. While in the State Assembly, he ran for Milwaukee County Executive. While in that office, he ran for Governor. It came as no surprise that, during a recent Washington DC interview, he confided to a reporter that he would not rule-out a Presidential run. He also stated that he did not want to commit to serving a full term as Governor if he is re-elected in 2014....

I am not going to bang on the man for running for president while in office. It’s his right, and it’s not like there isn’t precedence for the thing.
The only criticism I would have is that one: I personally think 2013 is a little too soon. Two: typically, it is only successful politicians that run for higher office. To be the most generous, the jury is still out on this Gov.’s success.
If you are going to run on job-jobs-jobs… twice. I don’t think slipping in the nation’s job creation is the path to success. Just sayin’

Considering that Walker hasn't yet formed an exploration committee, he doesn't seem to have begun campaigning for a presidential run. It's nothing more than Lefty talking points at this point.

This Gov is not supposed to campaign on taxpayer time. He isn't successful, his reforms are not working, and he rewards his donors financially. It would be a crime if Walker won in 2014 or 2016. Walker should go into the private sector, work for Koch as a valet or something that isn't too intellectually rigorous for him.

Like a Broken Record, Walker Evades Jobs Fail Responsibility
Another failing jobs report, more Walker finger-pointing.
Asked Thursday about new numbers showing Wisconsin lagging in job growth, Gov. Scott Walker pointed to the uncertainty he said business owners felt because of the political tumult that rocked Wisconsin early in his term.
That one's getting old and moldy.
Remember this from last May:
Walker blamed the state's employment woes on the recalls, saying employers are hesitant to add jobs during times of political uncertainty but that there would be a "dramatic turnaround" after June 5.
"There is a tremendous enthusiasm built up for additional jobs," he said. "I think you're going to see a tremendous takeoff."
He needs to look to his actions that took jobs, resources and synergy right out of the economy - - his scuttling of hundreds of millions of dollars in labor-intensive rail line construction and train manufacturing, stalling wind farm installations and slashing the take-home pay of and main street spending by tens of thousands of public employees.
Great analysis by a Milwaukee economist, here:

...My advice to Governor Scott Walker: Curb your ambitions, and show a little more humility, please.
Although generally supportive of Walker's economic initiatives, I have criticized his recent budget proposal for being too timid in reducing taxes. Now I have another complaint: his self-congratulatory behavior.
Walker is spending an inordinate amount of time speaking at various functions across the country in front of adoring crowds. Outside the state he touts his successes inside the state, while appearing to prepare himself for higher office..

Job slump is @GovWalker's fault http://www.jsonline.com/news/opinion/job-slump-is-walkers-fault-ci9cmke-200967701.html … #wiunion #wipolitics #itsnotworking
...There were also missed opportunities, such as the nearly $1 billion in federal money that would have been used to improve rail transit in the state. Walker turned it down.
Across the capitalist world, there is a sharp contrast between two very different styles of economic management. One approach is austerity, the belief that shrinking government brings growth. The other is the view that expanded public investment makes for growth.
Wisconsin, unfortunately, has become a case study in the failure of austerity economics at the state level.

If Scooter thinks he will be nominated on these stats, he is crazy!
Scott Walker’s wisdom should make a quick read dlvr.it/3BMmlT
..............Reporter Todd Milewski reported last week that wages for an average Wisconsin worker fell 2.65 percent in the third quarter of 2012, the fourth-biggest percentage loss among the 50 states. Indeed, the decline to an average wage of $770 per week dropped Wisconsin to No. 35 in the country. Additionally, Walker has cut more from public education than any governor of any state and has turned away federal dollars that would have created construction jobs and provided health care to many of the state’s poor.
Those figures coupled with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report that Wisconsin now ranks 44th among the states in creating private-sector jobs probably has Mississippians hoping that their state doesn’t become Misconsin.
