Reviving the American Dream Event to Reach Hispanic Voters

Faith-based organization bringing in former U.S. attorney general in efforts to educate Hispanic voters at event in Waukesha.

The Faith and Freedom Coalition is reaching out to Hispanic voters during an event from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Fox River Christian Church. Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will be a featured guest at the event.

Census population figures estimate there could be up to a half million Hispanics in Wisconsin by 2020, said Jesse Garza, director of operations in Wisconsin for the Faith and Freedom Coalition.

“The Hispanic vote is becoming more and more relevant to the country and to the state,” Garza said.

The faith-based organization wants to start dialogue about issues among the Hispanic community. The primary goals are to educate, register and mobilize voters, according to Garza.

“We have got to build a relationship, we have to forge a relationship to make sure their voice is heard when legislation is drawn up and passed,” Garza said. "You can’t have a voice unless you have a coalition.”

The Hispanic event comes the night before the same group hosts a presidential primary kickoff event at the Country Springs Hotel that will feature GOP candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.

Latinos are increasingly becoming more aware that their values align with conservative Republicans.

The events listed are free. Come on out and listen. You just might learn something.

Here comes an election year and Republicans hope that Latinos have forgotten all the hostility they have faced from Republicans over the last few decades. Voter ID laws, labor restrictions, immigration restrictions, English-only laws - all passed by Republicans. Santorum thinks Puerto Rico should make English their primary language. Don't worry though, Republicans share your values.

@St. Swithin--thanks for proving my point. Latinos embrace honest elections, legal immigration, and assimilate learning English, for that is the way to get ahead.

@Keith Best....Get ready my friend, 2043 will be a big year for all you white males. Minorities, primarily Hispanic, will outnumber Caucasians and then we'll see if English isn't the second language. You'll have to learn Spanish to get ahead.
