Report: Town of Waukesha Wants on City’s Water Negotiation Team

Waukesha Freeman reporting town is seeking role on team discussing water sales with Milwaukee, Oak Creek and Racine.

The city’s daily newspaper, The Waukesha Freeman, is reporting the Town of Waukesha wants to be on the city’s water negotiation team if it is to be in the city’s future water supply area.

Mayor Jeff Scrima unsuccessfully advocated during Tuesday’s Common Council meeting to have a representative for the Town of Waukesha on the negotiation team. Scrima also was kept off the water negotiation team as the aldermen wanted politics out of the negotiations.

Portions of the Town of Waukesha, Town of Genesee and City of Pewaukee are in the city’s future water service area, but during Tuesday’s Common Council meeting, Scrima only pushed for the Town of Waukesha to be on the negotiation team, saying it had a bigger population of people who could be affected.

While the Town of Waukesha is in the future water service area that is being sent with the city’s Great Lakes water application, that does not mean the town will automatically be hooked up to the city’s water supply. The residents will have to make the request to the city to obtain Great Lakes water.

Meanwhile, a coalition of environmentalists who frequently submit news release stating their opposition to the city’s application again submitted statements that they felt the city’s application was not complete.
