Readers Say The Steaming Cup is Best Place to be on St. Patty's Day
Popular coffee shop gets kudos for serving up an authentic Irish dinner for its customers.
You won't be able to get a shot of Irish whiskey and there is no Guinness beer on top, but that didn't stop Patch readers for selecting The Steaming Cup as the best place in Waukesha to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
More than 500 people cast votes on our Readers' Choice poll, and the coffee shop at 340 W. Main St. came out on top.
"I'm very surprised and really pleased," said Kerry Mackay, who has co-owned the business with his wife, Terry, since 2004. "It's a credit to our customers. They're taking care of us."
Kerry said The Steaming Cup is well known for its traditional Irish dinner, which features a special corned beef sandwich, colcannon (a dish of Irish mashed potatoes, kale and onions), and Irish country soup.
And this year, Kerry is whipping up a new Irish brownie for his St. Patty's Day customers.
Taking second place in the Readers' Choice poll is the House of Guinness, followed by J Lotti's Bar & Grill House and McBride’s Hilltop Pub.

Does the Steaming Cup still smell like old man Morey? Ah, a true piece of historic Waukesha. Lets allow him to close more of "his" parking spots. NOT!

I've been to The Steaming Cup many times. For the great food, happy customers and workers, and because it is a comfortable and fun place to just hang out. The prices are good and they respect all customers. What more can you ask for?

I have no gripe with the steaming cup but as we have seen with other Waukesha elections--- the voters around here can totally miss the point.

I used to enjoy the Steaming Cup until one day my 10 year old son went around town offering advertisement opportunities as a fundraiser for basketball. The owner came out to speak with him. A simple no thank you would have been fine and we would have went on our way, instead he began slamming my son with questions about the fundraiser and then began to very rudely tell him all the reasons why he would not be purchasing an advertisement. I finally had to say it was time to go and left. My son was shaken by his rudeness and was afraid to ask anyone else. I could not believe the way he acted and have not been back. I will not waste my money on someone who acts that way to a child.

Rochester Deli is my #1 choice! No need to worry about friendliness there! Laura and Dan always go above and beyond with their kindness. They have always tryed to help with donations for many activities my kids have been involved with. Noone has ever came close to their reuben sandwiches, and never will! GO ROCHESTER!

I also want your readers to understand that many downtown business owners have alot of fun with the Waukesha Patch. Some have many names, and are able to make many posts, but really are done by that same 1 person. While most love the patch as true as I do...and get alot of valuable information from it, some mis-use it, as a form to mislead veiwers. Just a word of wisdom to think about! Thanks!
