Now the the City of Waukesha has turned in its application to purchase water from Racine, Oak Creek or Milwaukee, the state Department of Natural Resources has scheduled public hearings for the request.

Three hearings are scheduled for the last week in July; in Pewaukee on July 26, in Wauwatosa and Sturtevant on July 28.

According to a story in the Milwaukee Business Journal, Waukesha has radium contamination during heavy use that makes the water not meet federal standards. 

Before Waukesha can move forward with its purchasing plan, the city's application must be approved by the Council of Great Lakes Governors, which includes the governors of eight states plus the leaders of Ontario and Quebec.
