Pewaukee Firefighters Don't Welcome Dancing Strangers
Pewaukee man flees from Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and later says he will bless the lights so they turn green, according to a criminal complaint.
A 24-year-old Pewaukee man who was yelling about God while attempting to dance with firefighters at the Pewaukee Fire Department was instead taken to jail.
Joshua J. Hamer – or Joshua J. Hamer Jesus as he told Waukesha County deputies – is charged with attempting to flee or elude a traffic officer. If convicted, he faces up to 1.5 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint filed Monday:
Waukesha County deputies were dispatched Feb. 24 to the fire station on Pewaukee Road because a man was trying to dance with the firefighters. When deputies arrived, Hamer ran to his vehicle. Deputies ordered Hamer to stop at gunpoint but Hamer fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Deputies chased Hamer for .7 miles at 80 mph before Hamer’s vehicle lost control near Highway M. Deputies took Hamer into custody.
Hamer began answered questions with military-style answers, shouting “Yes sir” and “Thank you, sir, for keeping me safe.” Hamer kept talking in a military-style until they reached the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.
As they were driving, Hamer told the deputy he would bless the lights so the deputy would get all green lights, adding “there is not much wind today and when I leave today, I will make sure the wind is blowing strong.”
Hamer told deputies during booking that his name was Joshua J. Hamer Jesus and that his birth date was “February” – later adding both the 24th and 25th. Eventually he told deputies his “earthborn date” was Feb. 15, 1989.
As deputies read his rights, Hamer began giggling, opening and closing his mouth and making a clicking noise with his teeth.
