Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Brittany Porter

Whiz Kids is a new feature that highlights the accomplishments of local kids. This week, we honor Brittany Porter, who has taken a leadership role on a Waukesha basketball team.

Each week, Waukesha Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to Sarah.Millard@patch.com.

Here's our story on this week's Whiz Kid:

SWCHA Saints girls basketball head coach Angie Meyer and assistant coach Holly Johnson nominated a senior on the team for her leadership skills.

Whiz Kid: Brittany Porter of Waukesha

Age: 18

School: Homeschooled

Accomplishment: Captain of the SWCHA Saints girls basketball team

Key to Awesomeness: Brittany has a very encouraging attitude and she pumps the girls up. She motivates the other players on the team as she leads the huddle. Brittany has stepped up this year on the basketball team as a true leader. In addition to Brittany's encouraging personality, she also gives it 100 percent on the court.

Off the court, Brittany volunteers her time at her church's coffee shop, which donates the proceeds to mission work. Mission work is not new to Brittany as she spent time in Indonesia while her parents served overseas.

Brittany also works part-time at Cousins Subs.
